DESCRIPTION:Application deadline:\n\nJanuary 24th\, 2020\n\nDescription:\n\
nHeterogeneous architectures with nodes featuring accelerator cards or soc
kets are taking an important share in the HPC market\, given their superio
rity in term of flop/watt with respect to CISC and RISC architecture.\nTo
be effective on heterogeneous architecture applications usually requires i
mportant refactoring and adaptation\, and many programming paradigms are a
vailable\, some vendor specific and some other defined by an open standard
\,\nbut without a clear winner yet (e.g. as it is the case for message pas
sing communications where there is MPI\, available for all network technol
ogies).\n\nThis school focus on software development techniques to address
the implementation of new HPC applications and the re-factory of existing
ones\, in the era of heterogeneous\, energy efficient\, massively paralle
 l architectures\,\ntoward exascale\, with theoretical lectures and hands-o
n sessions on the different most promising programming techniques and para
digms for accelerated computing.\n\nSoftware engineering techniques and hi
gh productivity languages will complement lectures on parallel programming
and porting toward new architectures\, to allow the implementation of app
lication that can be maintained across a complex and fast evolving HPC arc
 hitectures.\n \n\nTopics:\n\n\n	Heterogeneous architectures\n	Elements of
software engineering\n	Parallel programming techniques for accelerated co
 mputing\, including CUDA\, OpenMP\, OpenACC\, SYCL\n	Parallel programming
techniques for massively parallel applications\n	Models for applications i
ntegrating MPI\, OpenMP OpenACC\, CUDA and CUDA Fortran paradigms\n\n\nTar
get audience:\n\nThe school is aimed at PRACE users\, final year master st
udents\, PhD students\, and young researchers in computational sciences a
nd engineering\, with different backgrounds\, interested in applying the
emerging technologies on high performance computing to their research.\n
\nPre-requisites:\n\nGood knowledge of parallel programming with MPI and/o
r OpenMP\, knowledge of FORTRAN and C languages. Basic knowledge of para
 llel computer architectures.\n\nAdmitted students:\n\nAttendance is free.\
n\nA grant of 300 EUR (for students working abroad) and 150 EUR (for stude
nts working in Italy) will be available for participants not funded by the
ir institution and not working or living in the Bologna area. Documentatio
n will be required. Lunches for the 5 days will be provided by Cineca. Eac
h student will be given a two month access to the Cineca's supercomputing
resources.\n\nAcknowledgement:\n\nThe support of CINI for the software e
ngineering module is gratefully acknowledged.\n\nWARNING: \nWe received a
n official statement from the regional authorities stating that all the su
bjects\, both public and private\, must cancel all planned educational act
ivities due the recent virus outbreak that is affecting the northern part
of the country.\nFor this reason all the lessons of the School are CANCEL
LED.\nSome of them will be streamed via WebEx. \nIf interested\, please
