DESCRIPTION:\n\nGoals\n\nThis workshop organized by VI-HPS for the German P
RACE Advanced Training Centre hosted by LRZ will:\n\ngive an overview of t
he VI-HPS programming tools suite\n	explain the functionality of individua
l tools\, and how to use them effectively\n	offer hands-on experience and
expert assistance using the tools\nFor details see: http://www.vi-hps.org/
 training/tws/tw21.html\n\nProgramme Overview\n\nPresentations and hands-on
sessions are planned on the following topics:\n\nSetting up\, welcome and
  introduction\n	Score-P instrumentation and measurement\n	Scalasca automat
ed trace analysis\n	Vampir interactive trace analysis\n	Periscope/PTF auto
mated performance analysis and optimisation\n	Extra-P automated performanc
e modeling\n	Paraver/Extrae/Dimemas trace analysis and performance predict
ion\n	[k]cachegrind cache utilisation analysis\n	MAQAO performance analysi
 s &amp\; optimisation\n	mpiP lightweight MPI profiling\n	Open|SpeedShop pr
ofiling and tracing toolset\n	MUST runtime error detection for MPI\n	ARCHE
R runtime error detection for OpenMP\n	STAT stack trace analysis\n	MAP+PR
profiling and performance reports\nA brief overview of the capabilities of
these and associated tools is provided in the VI-HPS Tools Guide.\n\nThe
workshop will be held in English and run from 09:00 to not later than 18:0
0 each day\, with breaks for lunch and refreshments. For participants from
public research institutions in PRACE countries\, the course fee is spons
ored through the PRACE PATC program. All participants are responsible for
their own travel and accommodation.\n\nA social event for participant and
instructor networking is planned for the evening on Tuesday 19 April\, con
sisting of a guided tour of the Weihenstephan Brewery followed by a self-p
aid dinner at the brewery restaurant.\n\n\n\n \n\nClassroom capacity is l
imited\, therefore priority will be given to applicants with parallel code
s already running on the workshop computer system SGI UV\, and those bring
ing codes from similar x86 cluster systems to work on. Participants are th
erefore encouraged to prepare their own MPI\, OpenMP and hybrid MPI+OpenMP
  parallel application codes for analysis.\n\nHardware Platform\n\nThe UV2
 - SGI Ultraviolet using Intel Westmere-EX (2.4 GHz) with 960 cores and Inf
iniband-based NUMAlink shared memory interconnect has been reserved exclus
 ively  for the training.\n\nsee https://www.lrz.de/services/compute/linux
-cluster/overview/\n\nDuring the training the compute nodes can be accesse
d interactively.\n\nCourse accounts will be provided during the workshop t
o participants without existing accounts. Other systems where up-to-date v
ersions of the tools are installed can also be used when preferred\, thoug
h support may be limited and participants are expected to already possess
user accounts on non-local systems. Regardless of whichever systems they i
ntend to use\, participants should be familiar with the relevant procedure
s for compiling and running their parallel applications (via batch queues
where appropriate).\n\nLocation\, Transport and Accommodation\n\nThe works
hop will be held in Leibniz Rechenzentrum on the university campus outside
Garching bei München\, approximately 25 min north from the city centre o
 f Munich. The U-bahn line U6 (station: Garching-Forschungszentrum) provide
s direct connection from the campus area to both Munich and Garching.\n\nG
etting to/from LRZ\n\nA block of rooms have been reserved until 17 March 2
016 with the code "VIHPS" at the Hotel Hoyacker Hof in Garching. It is re
commended to choose a hotel in Garching or Munich city centre and use the
U-bahn to reach LRZ.Accommodation in GarchingAccommodation in Munich\n\n
\n\nThe detailed program will be available under VI-HPS training web site.
