DESCRIPTION:34th VI-HPS Tuning Workshop\n\nDate\n\nTuesday 28th to Thursday
30th\, from 09:00 to 17:00 BST each day\n\nLocation\n\nThe workshop will
take place online.\n\nGoals\n\nThis workshop is organised by VI-HPS for th
e UK PRACE Advanced Training Centre to:\n\n\n	give an overview of the VI-H
PS programming tools suite\n	explain the functionality of individual tools
\, and how to use them effectively\n	offer hands-on experience and expert
assistance using the tools\n\n\nOn completion participants should be famil
iar with common performance analysis and diagnosis techniques and how they
can be employed in practice (on a range of HPC systems). Those who prepar
ed their own application test cases will have been coached in the tuning o
f their measurement and analysis\, and provided optimization suggestions.\
n\nProgramme Overview\n\nPresentations and hands-on sessions are on the fo
 llowing topics:\n\n\n	Paraver/Dimemas (BSC)\n	TAU (UOregon)\n	Score-P/Scal
asca/Cube (JSC)\n	MAQAO (UVSQ)\n	ARM Forge (ARM)\n\n\nA brief overview of
the capabilities of these and associated tools is provided in the VI-HPS T
ools Guide.\n\nThe workshop will be held in English and run from 09:00 to
not later than 17:00 each day\, with breaks for lunch and refreshments. Th
ere is no fee for participation.\n\nCourse capacity is limited\, therefore
priority will be given to applicants with MPI\, OpenMP and hybrid OpenMP+
MPI parallel codes already running on the workshop computer systems\, and
those bringing codes from similar systems to work on. Attendees will need
to bring their own notebook computers (with SSH and X11 configured) and us
e (eduroam) wifi to connect to the workshop computer systems.\n\nOutline\n
\nThe workshop introduces tools that provide a practical basis for portabl
e performance analysis of parallel application execution\, covering both p
rofiling and tracing. It will be delivered as a series of presentations wi
th associated hands-on practical exercises using the ARM-based Isambard Cr
ay XC50 computer.\n\nWhile analysis of provided example codes will be used
to guide the class through the relevant steps and familiarise with usage
of the tools\, coaching will also be available to assist participants to a
nalyse their own parallel application codes and may suggest opportunities
for improving their execution performance and scalability.\n\nProgramme\n\
nDetails to follow.  Sessions will run 09:00 to 17:00 BST each day.\n\nEv
