DESCRIPTION:Educators:\nJochen Blom\, Oliver Schwengers (BiGi)\n\nDate:\n02
.09.2020\n\nLocation:\nOnline Training Room\n\nContents:\nTopic of this on
e-day-workshop will be sequence data analysis of microbial genomes. This w
ill include quality control\, assembly\, genome annotation and comparative
genomics using the de.NBI software tools ASA3P and EDGAR.\n\nThe one-day-
course will be separated in two sessions\, one in the morning and one in t
he afternoon.\nIn the morning session\, the basic principles of regional a
nd functional annotation will be introduced\, and available tools and algo
rithms for the different annotation steps will be explained. The ASA3P pla
tform for high-throughput parallel genome annotation and its capabilities
in antibiotic resistance and virulence factor detection will be presented
in detail.\n • The basic principles of regional and functional annota
tion\n • Genome annotation pipelines for single and multiple genomes\
n • High throughput genome annotation using ASA3P\n\n\nIn the afterno
on session\, the EDGAR platform for comparative genomics will be introduce
 d. One main topic will be its use for phylogenetic analyses based on genom
e similarity indices and the complete core genome of organisms. All featur
es of EDGAR will be introduced in detail.\n • Genomic subset calculat
 ions (core-genome\, pan-genome\, singleton genes)\n • Core-genome-bas
 ed phylogenetic analyses\n • Core genome based phylogeny\n ◦
  ANI\, AAI\, POCP\n • Statistical analyses (core/pan/singleton develo
pment plots)\n • The public EDGAR database\n\n\nAfter the EDGAR prese
ntation\, there will be time for custom data analysis consulting. Particip
ants with own data which needs to be analyzed are encouraged to discuss th
eir projects with the bioinformatics experts of the Bielefeld-Gießen Reso
urce Center for Microbial Bioinformatics (BiGi).\n\nIn both sessions\, the
program includes extensive hands-on training to allow participants to bec
ome familiar with the presented software.\n\nLearning goals:\nPrinciples o
 f computational sequence analysis\, hands-on experience with de.NBI softwa
 re services\n\nPrerequisites:\n-\n\nKeywords:\nSequence data analysis\, ge
 nomics\, annotation\, comparative genomics\, phylogenetic analysis\n\nTool
 s:\nASA3P\, EDGAR
