DESCRIPTION:The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) in association with U
niversitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) has been awarded by NVIDIA as a
GPU Center of Excellence. BSC and UPC currently offer a number of courses
covering CUDA architecture and programming languages for parallel computin
 g. Please contact us for possible collaborations.\n\nThe seventh edition o
f the Programming and Tuning Massively Parallel Systems summer school (PUM
PS) is aimed at enriching the skills of researchers\, graduate students an
d teachers with cutting-edge technique and hands-on experience in developi
ng applications for many-core processors with massively parallel computing
resources like GPU accelerators.\n\n\n	Summer School Co-Directors: Mateo
Valero (BSC and UPC) and Wen-mei Hwu (University of Illinois at Urbana-Cha
 mpaign)\n	\n	\n	Local Organizers: Antonio J. Peña (BSC)\, Victor Garcia (
 BSC and UPC)\, and Nacho Navarro (BSC and UPC)\n	\n	\n	Dates:\n\n	\n Appl
ications due: May 31\, 2016\n\n \n Due to space limitations\, early app
lication is strongly recommended. You may also be suggested to attend an o
nline prerequisite training on basic CUDA programming before joining PUMPS
 .\n \n \n \n Notification of acceptance: June 10\, 2016\n \n \n Su
 mmer school: July 11-15\, 2016\n \n	\n\n	Organized by:\n\n	\n Barcelona

 Corporation )\n \n \n Invited Lecturer: Juan Gómez-Luna (Universidad d
e Córdoba)\n \n \n BSC / UPC Lecturers: Xavier Martorell and Xavier Te
 ruel\n \n \n Teaching Assistants: Abdul Dakkak\, Carl Pearson\, Simon G
arcia de Gonzalo\, Marc Jorda\, Pau Farre\, Javier Bueno\, Aimar Rodriguez
 \n \n	\n\n	Prerequisites for the course are:\n\n	\n Basic CUDA knowledge
is required to attend the course. Applicants that cannot certify their ex
perience in CUDA programming will be asked to take a short on-line course
 covering the necessary introductory topics\n		\n		\n		C\, C++\, Java\, or
equivalent programming knowledge. Skills in parallel programming will be h
 elpful\n \n	\nPreliminary Overview\n\n\n	Registration for the course is f
ree. We expect our sponsors will cover academic applicants' marginal expen
ses such as meals. Please note that travel and lodging are not covered. Ap
plicants from non-academic institutions (companies)\, please contact us at
  bcw2016@bcw.ac.upc.edu for sponsorship possibilities.\n	\n\n	By the end o
f the summer school\, participants will:\n\n	\n Be able to design algorit
hms that are suitable for accelerators.\n \n \n Understand the most imp
ortant architectural performance considerations for developing parallel ap
plications.\n \n \n Be exposed to computational thinking skills for acc
elerating applications in science and engineering.\n \n \n Engage compu
ting accelerators on science and engineering breakthroughs.\n \n	\n\n	Pro
 gramming Languages: CUDA\, MPI\, OmpSs\, OpenCL\n	\n	\n	Hands-on Labs: Aft
ernoon labs with teaching assistants for each audience/level.\n\n	\n Part
icipants are expected to bring their own laptops to access the servers wit
h GPU accelerators.\n \n \n The afternoon lab sessions will provide han
ds-on experience with various languages and tools covered in the lectures
and will comprise a brief introduction to the programming assignments\, fo
llowed by independent work periods. Teaching assistants will be available
in person and on the web to help with assignments.\n \n	\nIn Memoriam - N
acho Navarro\n\nWe dedicate this edition of the Summer School to our frien
d Nacho Navarro\, who sadly passed away on February 28th\, 2016. He was th
e father of this summer school\, organizing it since its very first editio
n back in 2010. We invite you to visit the website BSC opened for him: In
Memoriam - Nacho Navarro and contribute sharing your experiences with our
 beloved colleague.\n\n\n\nhttps://events.prace-ri.eu/event/500/
