DESCRIPTION:This course will be streamed to registered participants only.\n
 \n# Overview\n[neXtProt](http://www.nextprot.org) is a platform developed
at SIB that helps researchers answer questions relevant to human proteins.
It provides a comprehensive set of high quality\, fully traceable and sta
ndardized annotations on human proteins at the genomic\, transcriptomic an
d proteomic levels and the tools to explore these\, manually or programmat
ically. As the reference database for the HUPO Human Protein Project sinc
e 2013\, neXtProt has a strong focus on mass spectrometry data and develop
ed specific companion tools for the proteomics community.\n\nIn this 4-h c
ourse\, participants will learn to find and interpret human protein data\,
save lists of proteins\, plan proteomics experiments and predict the impa
ct of variants using the tools provided in the neXtProt platform.\n\n\n\n#
Schedule - CET time zone\n\n* 14:00-16:00: **Lecture** Exploring the univ
erse of human proteins using neXtProt (including 2 Q&amp\;A sessions)\n* 1
 6:00-18:00: **Hands-on exercises**\n\n# Audience\nThis course is targeted
to any life scientist or bioinformatician who needs to retrieve comprehens
ive data on human proteins (variants\, PTMs\, protein-protein interactions
 \, subcellular location\, function etc). \n# Learning objectives\nAt the e
nd of the course\, the participants should be able to:\n* Use the simple s
 earch to find a gene\, publication\, pathway\, etc.\n* Interpret neXtProt
annotations and trace back their evidence to the original data source\n* H
ighlight a specific sequence feature in an entry using the feature viewer\
n* Create protein lists and compare them\n* Use neXtProt associated tools
to design or interpret a proteomics experiment\n* Use the VEP community to
ol to predict the impact of a variant\n* Execute a SPARQL query example an
 swering a complex biological question\n\n\n# Prerequisites\n##### Knowledg
e / competencies\nBasic knowledge of biology and proteins is required. Thi
s course is designed for beginners and does not require any previous knowl
edge of the neXtProt platform.\n\nParticipants of the hands-on session sho
uld prepare a few biological questions beforehand to get the most of the c
ourse. \nThe neXtProt advanced search functionalities are based on SPARQL
\, a semantic query language for databases that is recognized as one of th
e key technologies of the semantic web and facilitates interoperability wi
th other resources. Those wishing to try out the advanced search are enco
uraged to look at this [guide](https://doi.org/10.7490/f1000research.11168
29.1) prior to the course.\n\n\n##### Technical\nThis course will be **str
eamed**\, you are thus required to have your own computer with an internet
  connection.\n\n# Application\n \n\nDeadline for registration and cancella
tion is set to *07/02/2023*.\n\nYou will be informed by email of your regi
stration confirmation.\n\n\n# Venue and Time\nThis course will be streamed
using Zoom. The course will start at 14:00 CET and end around 18:00 CET.
\n\nPrecise information will be provided to the participants on due time.\
 n\n\n# Additional information\nCoordination: Monique Zahn\, SIB Training
group.\n\n\n\nYou are welcome to register to the SIB courses mailing list
to be informed of all future courses and workshops\, as well as all import
ant deadlines using the form [here](https://lists.sib.swiss/mailman/listin
fo/courses).\n\nPlease note that participation to SIB courses is subject t
 o our [general conditions](http://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-conditi
ons).\n\nSIB abides by the [ELIXIR Code of Conduct](https://elixir-europe.

to abide by the same code.\n\nFor more information\, please contact [trai
