DESCRIPTION:High-performance computing (HPC) is a fundamental technology us
ed in solving scientific problems. Many of the grand challenges of science
depend on simulations and models run on HPC facilities to make progress\,
for example: protein folding\, the search for the Higgs boson\, and devel
oping nuclear fusion.\nOn completion of this two day course you will have
a solid foundation in the basic concepts underlying the drivers for HPC de
velopment\, HPC hardware\, software\, programming models and applications.
This foundation will give the you ability to appreciate the relevance of
HPC in your field and also equip you with the tools to start making effect
ive use of HPC facilities yourself. The course is delivered using a mixtur
e of lectures and practical sessions and has a very practical focus. Durin
g the practical sessions you will get the chance to use National HPC facil
ities (such as HECToR: http://www.hector.ac.uk) with HPC experts from EPCC
on-hand to answer your questions and provide insight.\nTopics covered inc
lude:\n* Why HPC? - What are the drivers and motivation?Who uses it?\n* HP
C Hardware - Building blocks and architectures\n* Parallel computing - Pro
gramming models and implementations\n* Using HPC systems - Access\, compil
ers\, resource allocation and performance\n* The Future of HPC\n\nhttps://
