DESCRIPTION:This webinar\, [part of the biocuration series](https://www.ebi
 .ac.uk/training/search-results?query=biocuration&amp\;domain=ebiweb_traini
 ng_events&amp\;page=1&amp\;facets=type:Webinar\,year:2022)\, will provide
an insight into biocuration in industry.\n\nWe will be joined by Rachael H
untley\, Senior Scientific Curator at SciBite and George Georghiou\, Infor
mation Manager at Novartis. Both will provide an insight into their role a
nd the projects they work on. In addition they will shed light on how bioc
uration tasks and projects may differ in industry from a more academic set
ting and which skills are helpful for moving into industry.\n\nIn particul
ar\, Rachael will highlight the major differences between working in her p
revious biocurator roles in non-profit and academia\, with her current rol
e in a commercial company. She will provide examples of services that SciB
ite provides to customers and of community projects that SciBite has been
involved with.\n\nGeorge will be discussing how his role as a biocurator h
elped him transition into an information scientist. Using his experience w
orking with ontologies\, data annotation and his knowledge of biology\, he
helps deliver custom data solutions and consulting services for his colle
agues at Novartis.\n\nThis webinar is the final one in our series of webin
ars on the topic of biocuration. In a [survey](https://f1000research.com/a
rticles/9-1094) in 2019 which aimed at identifying training needs in biocu
ration\, the most commonly indicated were programming\, development and us
e of ontologies and database management. In addition skills like programmi
ng and extracting data from literature were mentioned as decisive for a su
ccessful biocuration career. With our webinar series we want to help to cl
ose this gap: Bicourators from different backgrounds and institutes will s
hare their experience on how they have acquired these relevant skills in t
heir job\, how they apply these in their works and why they benefit from i
 t. The speakers will also point to helpful tools and resources they use.\n
