BACKGROUND
After the successful 1st BioHackathon Germany, ELIXIR Germany and de.NBI are organizing the 2nd BioHackathon Germany from 11-15 December 2023 in Bielefeld at Hotel Bielefelder Hof. We hope to encourage de.NBI / ELIXIR Germany and non-de.NBI / ELIXIR Germany participants to take part, as well as to attract industry engagement.

We are planning to hold the BioHackathon Germany F2F with additional remote access - available for those who cannot attend the meeting in person. Last year, this hybrid format was very successful and allowed everyone to participate in the BioHackathon Germany. Seats are limited for face-to-face participation.

Registration will be opened after the project selection.

SCOPE
BioHackathon Germany activities are driven by dynamic sessions where life scientists gather, discuss, and implement ideas and projects during intensive and productive coding sessions. The selected topics need to be aligned to challenges proposed by de.NBI / ELIXIR Germany and their service centers and units.

GOALS
- Engage technical people in the bioinformatics community inside and outside de.NBI / ELIXIR Germany to work together on topics of common interest aligned to de.NBI and ELIXIR Germany activities
- Strengthen the interactions with de.NBI / ELIXIR Germany service centers and units to establish and reinforce collaborations through hands-on programming activities.

CALL FOR PROJECT PROPOSALS
Submit your project proposals by email to [email protected] ahead of the deadline on 30 June 2023. The proposal should not be longer than 500 words and should include two projects leads / contact persons, a project draft and how it is aligned to challenges proposed by de.NBI / ELIXIR Germany and their service centers and units.

EXPENSES AND FUNDING
Registration for the BioHackathon Germany is free, however you will have to pay your own travel, food and accommodation expenses. de.NBI / ELIXIR Germany will pay accommodation expenses for two project instructors per accepted projects as well as lunch and drinks in the Hotel Bielefelder Hof.

CODE OF CONDUCT
The ELIXIR Germany Code of Conduct has been created so all participants at ELIXIR Germany events organized can interact with each other in a respectful and safe environment, and have avenues to turn to in case they believe there has been a breach to this Code of Conduct.

Travel information:

Our venue for the BioHackathon Germany - Hotel Bielefelder Hof - is located right in the centre of Bielefeld, opposite the main train station and therefore offers an optimal connection and location.

By train

You can quickly reach the venue by train. The Hotel Bielefelder Hof is located directly opposite the main train station. Here you only have to cross the station forecourt.

By car

via the A2/A33 :

Take the exit Kreuz Bielefeld and follow the A33 towards Osnabrück. Take the Bielefeld-Zentrum exit onto Ostwestfalendamm until you reach the Jöllenbecker Straße/Enger/Spenge exit. Keep left at the traffic lights , drive under the bridge and follow the road to the left at the second traffic light, after approx. 300m you will reach the hotel on the right hand side.

via the A1/A33:

Take the exit Bielefeld/Harderberg and follow the A33 towards Paderborn. Take the exit Bielefeld-Zentrum onto Ostwestfalendamm until you reach the exit Jöllenbecker Straße/Enger/Spenge. Keep left at the traffic lights, drive under the bridge and follow the road to the left at the second traffic light. After approx. 300m you will reach the hotel on the right-hand side.
