 arch’ will be discussed.\nBioethics is one of the core aspects of respon
 sible research. It is a very prominent issue in the biomedical areas of li
 fe sciences research. For instance\, in research involving primary human m
 aterials\, in clinical trials or in the use of animals for scientific rese
 arch. What are the main ethical issues here? How do we deal with them? Wha
 t is the role of ethical review boards in this area and how do they functi
 on? What about animal research? How do you apply the three R’s (replacem
 ent\, reduction and refinement) in animal research?\nAlso\, the ‘broader
  societal impact of biotech and life sciences research’ will be dealt wi
 th. Contested topics\, such as e.g. embryo research and the worldwide deba
 te on the public availability of human sequence data\, will be discussed.
