DESCRIPTION:## Course goals\n\nIn this course\, you will become familiar wi
th tools and best practices\nfor scientific software development. We don'
t teach programming\, but we teach the tools you need to do programming we
ll and avoid common inefficiency traps.\nThe tools we teach are practicall
y a requirement for any scientist that has to do their own programming. Th
e main focus is on using Git for efficiently writing and maintaining resea
rch\nsoftware.\n\n## Format\n\nThis is an informal and interactive event w
ith type-along lessons\, live coding\, and exercises. Learners are divided
into exercise teams for interactivity - register with a friend! If you f
eel a bit more confident in the material\, you can [register as an exercis
 e leader](https://coderefinery.github.io/2022-03-22-workshop/volunteer/).\
n\nThe workshop will be held online\, see options at [how to joining](http
 s://coderefinery.github.io/2022-03-22-workshop/join/).\n\n* Everyone watch
es the main teaching via a livestream at [https://twitch.tv/coderefinery](
https://twitch.tv/coderefinery). If you register\, you can get emails an
d link to ask questions.\n\n* You can also register to attend Zoom breakou
t rooms (limited places). Please only register for Zoom if you want to ac
tively take part in the exercises\; we will arrange participants into smal
l interactive breakout rooms.\n\n* Some partners offer in-person breakout
rooms and help\, see below.\n\n**Before signing up** please also read [thi
 s privacy note about tools/services we use](https://coderefinery.github.io
