BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:icalendar-ruby CALSCALE:GREGORIAN BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTAMP:20260629T075700Z UID:b4657f67-5f02-4ac4-bdb5-62c1780cd779 DTSTART:20121120T090000Z DTEND:20121122T173000Z DESCRIPTION:The Cray Centre of Excellence for HECToR and EPCC will deliver this course on the Cray XE6 and Multicore programming over three days.  I t will introduce new and existing users to the more powerful and advanced features of the hardware and software stack available. \nThe first day is a general introduction to modern HPC architectures and programming techni ques\, with practical examples done on the Cray XE6.\nThe second and third days focus on hardware and software issues specific to the Cray XE6\, inc luding a detailed overview of the "Interlagos" Opteron processor architect ure\, the Gemini network interconnect\, Cray systems software and performa nce tools.\nIt is possible to register for all 3 days\, or day 1 only\, or days 2 and 3 only.\nThe programme will include:\n An overview of modern HPC architectures.\n \n Using multi-core processors.\n \n Modern memory systems.\n \n Caching and performance issues.\n \n A detailed overview o f the "Interlagos" Opteron processor architecture and Gemini network inter connect.\n \n Details on using the Interlagos cores in fully populated or core-pair mode.\n \n Demonstrations of the additional flexibility and fu nctionality available with the Cray MPI library:\n \n Methods for cust omising the placement of ranks and processes to improve individual applica tion communication performance.\n \n Mechanisms for improving the ove rlap between communication and computation within an application.\n \n Using and optimising MPI-IO for efficient file system performance.\n \n \n Guidance on use of Cray supplied optimisations of the standard instal led scientific libraries.\n \n Tutorials on analysis tools\, CrayPAT incl uding the new Reveal tool.\n \n Guided tutorial and practical session on the Totalview debugging tool covering advanced features like:\n \n Adv anced memory debugging\n \n Replayengine - reverse debugging\n \n Automatic debugging through the use of scripts\n \n \n General tips an d tricks from the Cray Centre of Excellence for HECToR on optimising appli cations on Cray architectures.\n\nAttendees would benefit from experience with or an interest in Cray hardware. There will also be many opportunitie s for attendees to discuss their applications with members of EPCC and the Cray Centre of Excellence.
