DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Service for Data-Driven Discovery (CSD3) serves a
 s the HPC (High-Performance Computing) platform for Cambridge University\,
  granting thousands of users access to substantial computing power. \nThe 
 service offers two standard service level tiers: SL3 (free tier) and SL2 (
 paid tier)\, which allow users to run jobs for up to 12 hours or 36 hours\
 , respectively.\n\nWhile these time limits are adequate for most tasks\, c
 ertain bioinformatic applications require longer runtimes. \nNotable examp
 les include metagenomic applications\, de novo genome assembly\, and routi
 ne tasks like short-read mapping on very large genomes.\n\nTo cater to suc
 h scenarios\, CSD3 provides a specialized ['Long Jobs' partition/queue](ht
 tps://docs.hpc.cam.ac.uk/hpc/user-guide/long.html)\, which allows for exte
 nded runtimes of up to 7 days. \nHowever\, access to this partition is res
 tricted and granted only upon request. \nThe objective of this training se
 ssion is to facilitate access to the 'Long Jobs' queue by discussing its a
 ppropriate usage.\n\nDuring the session\, we will explore various use case
 s that demonstrate how and when to divide jobs into smaller tasks\, effici
 ently manage lengthy pipelines\, and take advantage of 'checkpoint-and-res
 tart' approaches. \nAdditionally\, we will address the potential issues th
 at arise from misusing the long queue and offer insights into testing your
  code to increase the likelihood of successful execution for long jobs.\n\
 nThe session aims to foster interactivity between instructors and particip
 ants\, encouraging an exchange of experiences. \nParticipants will be enco
 uraged to share examples from their own work where access to the long queu
 e would have been advantageous\, allowing for practical and relevant discu
 ssions.\n\nBy the end of the training\, attendees will gain a comprehensiv
 e understanding of leveraging the 'long jobs' queue effectively\, maximizi
 ng the potential of the CSD3 HPC service for their bioinformatic tasks.\n\
 n\nThese sessions are only for Cambridge University staff with a Raven acc
 ount.\n\nStaff from the School of Biological Sciences and School of Clinic
 al Medicine can attend this training for free.\n\nAll participants wishing
