DESCRIPTION:General Information\n\nData Carpentry develops and teaches work
shops on the fundamental data skills needed to conduct research. Its targe
t audience is researchers who have little to no prior computational experi
ence\, and its lessons are domain specific\, building on learners' existin
g knowledge to enable them to quickly apply skills learned to their own re
search. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply w
hat they have learned to their own research problems.\n\nFor more informat
ion on what we teach and why\, please see our paper "Good Enough Practices
for Scientific Computing". \n\nOrganisers: This workshop is provided by E
PCC\, Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre\, and organised in collaboration
with PRACE and the Software Sustainability Institute.\n\nPRACE Advanced T
raining Centres (PATCs) carry out and coordinate training and education ac
tivities that enable both European academic researchers and European indus
try to utilise the computational infrastructure available through PRACE.\n
The long-term vision is that PATCs will become the hubs and key drivers of
European high-performance computing education.\n\nThe Software Sustanabil
ity Institute's mission is to cultivate better\, more sustainable\, resear
ch software to enable world-class research (better software\, better resea
rch). Software is fundamental to research: seven out of ten UK researchers
report that their work would be impossible without it.\n\nWho: The course
is aimed at graduate students and other researchers. You don't need to h
ave any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the work
 shop. \n\nWhere: Room 47\, Talbot Building\, Swansea University\, Singleto
n Park\, Swansea SA2 8PP. Get directions with OpenStreetMap or Google Maps
 .\n\nWhen: Sep 20-21\, 2018. Add to your Google Calendar.\n\nRequirements:
Participants must bring a laptop with a Mac\, Linux\, or Windows operatin
g system (not a tablet\, Chromebook\, etc.) that they have administrative
privileges on. They should have a few specific software packages installed
(listed below). They are also required to abide by Data Carpentry's Code
of Conduct.\n\nAccessibility: We are committed to making this workshop acc
essible to everybody. The workshop organizers have checked that:\n\nThe ro
om is wheelchair / scooter accessible.\n	Accessible restrooms are availabl
e.\nMaterials will be provided in advance of the workshop and large-print
handouts are available if needed by notifying the organizers in advance. I
f we can help making learning easier for you (e.g. sign-language interpret
ers\, lactation facilities) please get in touch (using contact details bel
ow) and we will attempt to provide them.\n\nContact: Please email training
 @epcc.ed.ac.uk for more information.\n\nRegistration: To register\, comple
te the registration form.\n\nSurveys\n\nPlease be sure to complete these s
urveys before and after the workshop.\n\nPre-workshop Survey\n\nPost-works
