DESCRIPTION:\nde.NBI &amp\; ELIXIR - Train the Trainer Workshop to Learn Te
 aching Techniques\n\n Heidelberg \n\n \n\nEducators:\nMalvika Sharan\,
 Toby Hodges (HD-HuB)\, Elisabeth Zielonka\n\nDate:\n11-11-2019 - 12-11-201
 9\n09:30-17:00\n\nLocation:\nEMBL Heidelberg Room 202\n\nContents:\nThe co
urse is aimed at everyone who is interested in becoming a better teacher.
\n\nThe workshop is a mix of lectures and hands-on lessons where you pract
ise giving a short lesson using approaches learned and implement some of t
he teaching techniques which we will discuss. This is training for teachin
g\, not technical training\; you do not need any particular technical back
ground\, and we will not be teaching that. This workshop is based on the c
onstantly revised and updated curriculum.\n\nWe will offer two parallel tr
acks (The Carpentries Track and ELIXIR Track)\, and you will be asked to c
hoose one track that you would like to attend during this event. The Carpe
ntries Track to become Software Carpentry\, Data Carpentry and Library Car
pentry instructors\, run workshops and contribute to the Carpentry trainin
g materials. ELIXIR Track is a non-programming module which will prepare y
ou to organise or teach at the bioinformatics or wet-biology workshops.\n\
nThe Carpentries Track\nThis module is aimed at those who want to become S
oftware Carpentry and Data Carpentry instructors\, run workshops and contr
ibute to the Carpentry training materials. You don't currently have to be
an instructor or a teacher to attend this workshop\, but you do need to be
willing and committed to becoming one and to improving your teaching tech
niques.\n\nSoftware Carpentry and Data Carpentry's mission is to help scie
ntists and engineers get more research done in less time and with less pai
n by teaching them basic lab skills for scientific computing. This hands-o
n two-day workshop covers the basics of educational psychology and instruc
tional design and looks at how to use these ideas in both intensive worksh
ops and regular classes.\n\nPlease note that after this course is over\, y
ou will be asked to do three short follow-up exercises online in order to
finish qualifying as an instructor: the details are available athttps://ca
rpentries.github.io/instructor-training/checkout/. If you have any questio
ns about the workshop\, the reading material\, or anything else\, please g
 et in touch.\n\nELIXIR (non-programming) Track\nELIXIR unites Europe’s l
eading life science organisations in managing and safeguarding the increas
ing volume of data being generated by publicly funded research. It coordin
ates\, integrates and sustains bioinformatics resources across its member
states and enables users in academia and industry to access services that
are vital for their research.\n\nIn this module the trainer will deliver t
he ELIXIR curriculum aimed at the instructors interested in teaching works
hops on the topics related to bioinformatics or wet-biology.\n\nLearning g
oals:\nThis course aims to teach software writing skills and best practice
s to researchers in biology who wish to analyse data\, and to introduce a
toolset that can help them in their work. The goal is to enable them to be
more productive and to make their science better and more reproducible.\n
\nPrerequisites:\nWhen possible\, participants should bring a laptop that
can be connected to the Internet to follow teaching materials and developi
ng a shared note. A device for recording audio and video (mobile phones an
d laptops are OK) will also be useful as throughout the two days\, we are
going to record one another teaching in pairs or threes. It does not have
to be high-quality\, but it should be good enough that you can understand
what someone is saying.\n\nAll participants are required to abide by The C
arpentries' Code of Conduct.\n\nKeywords:\nTrain the Trainer\,
