Deep learning application in the life sciences

Deep learning has made headlines over the last couple of years, with applications in various domains. This approach has a lot of potential in life sciences.
As datasets in life sciences increase in size there is a growing need for techniques that can fully take advantage of them. The advent of Big Data alongside an exponential increase in computing power has led to the re-emergence of neural networks (now mostly referred to as “Deep Learning”). These techniques flourish when given enough data, which makes them ideal for the interpretation of massive datasets. In this talk, we provide an introduction to Deep Learning as well as some examples of how it is being applied in the context of life sciences.
