DESCRIPTION:This hands-on workshop will introduce users of the R software e
nvironment to the specific skills and applications used in the analysis of
microarray and next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.\n\nPractical exerci
ses will include quality control and normalisation of data for differentia
l gene expression\, and linking genomic information to external public dat
 asets.\n\nRecommended participants\n\nBiologists and bioinformaticians wis
hing to use R for RNA expression analysis. Prior expertise with R and the
command line interface is required\, to a level equivalent of that provide
d by the QFAB workshop “Introduction to R”.\n\nWhat will I learn?\n\nD
uring this course you will learn about:\n\nPre-processing and quality cont
rol of microarray and RNA-Seq data\nThe use of R packages for the identifi
cation of differentially-expressed genes from expression data\nSystems bio
logy interpretation of gene lists using pathway analysis\nIntegration of e
xpression and genome data with Ensembl databases\nAfter this course you sh
ould be able to:\n\nImport Affymetrix CEL files to R as data objects\nCarr
y out standard QC tests on microarray and RNA-Seq datasets\nUse the limma-
voom R package to produce lists of differentially expressed genes between
pairs of samples\nIdentify over-represented gene ontology categories in ge
ne lists using the GOStats package\n
