DESCRIPTION:Educators:\nAbdulrahman Salhab\, Michael Scherer (de.NBI-Epi /
 HD-HuB)\n\nDate:\n18 -19th May\, 2020\n\nLocation:\nSaarbrücken\n\nConten
ts:\nThis course aims to convey basic knowledge on the bioinformatic proce
ssing of DNA methylation data. Following the outline of a standard experim
ent we discuss qualities of various assays and when they are beneficial. I
n the first half there will be a slight focus on sequencing data. We will
prepare raw sequence reads for alignment\, methylation calls and identific
ation of differentially methylated sites or regions. Throughout\, we consi
der how experimental settings interact and influence the results and how q
uality control can be used to understand generated data and might improve
on subsequent experiments. The second half will focus on how to evaluate t
he data and connect it to public resources to further understanding of the
results. Presentations will be interleaved with practical sessions\n\nLea
rning goals:\n • Understand the bioinformatic processing of DNA methy
lation\n • Preparation and description of raw read files\n • Bas
ic generation of methylation calls and differentially methylated regions\n
     • How to evaluate DNA methylation data\n\nPrerequisites:\nThe course
requires basic computer skills:\n • installation of programs\n
 • office package with focus on spread-sheets\n • Web-browsing\n\nKe
 ywords:\nDNA methylation\n\nTools:\ngemBS\, RnBeads\n
