DESCRIPTION:ELIXIR panel discussion on “Trusted research environments for
sharing data in life sciences”\n\n\n	Duration: 40 minutes (discussion a
 nd Q&amp\;A) \n	Session: "Bioinformatics + in silico R&amp\;D"\; second d
ay (5 October\, end of the day 17:25)\n	More info: ELIXIR-Switzerland boo

usoni (despoina.sousoni@elixir-europe.org).\n\nBackground for the panel di
scussion\n\nThe impact of data-centric research is increasingly dependent
on the ability of researchers to access sensitive data and combine large-s
cale\, representative data sets for analysis\, pointing more and more to t
he need for secure analytical environments for research on security-graded
data.\n\nThese data sets need to be hosted and managed in Trusted Researc
h Environments (TREs)\, providing data access and analysis while ensuring
reliable data management\, governance and technology.\n\nHowever\, the lan
dscape of TREs involving sensitive or restricted data is very fragmented\,
and there is no common reference architecture that enables connectivity a
nd interoperability among TREs. To address this fragmentation and foster c
ollaboration among different stakeholders\, there is a need to establish a
framework for large-scale partnerships on sensitive and restricted data v
ia a network of TREs.\n\nELIXIR is hosting this discussion with a panel of
experts with the aim of fostering a collaborative approach towards solvin
g these issues.\n\nPanellists\n\n\n	Bert  Verdonck (Chief Executive Offic
er\, Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS))\n	Sara Garavelli (Strategic
European Engagement and Coordination Development Manager at CSC – IT Cen
ter for Science in Finland\, and member of the Board of Directors of the E
OSC Association) \n	Kate Witkowska (Strategic Partnership Director\, Geno
mics England)\n	Sebastian Wasilewski (Senior Director of Informatics at CG
R\, AstraZeneca)\n	Frederic Erard (Head\, Legal and Technology Transfer Of
fice\, Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics)\n\n\nModerator:  ELIXIR repres
entative (TBC)\n\nTopics \n\n\n	How to harmonise the standards for data
quality\, interoperability and governance across different TREs and data s
ources.\n	How to leverage cloud-based services and technologies to enable
scalable and efficient data analysis and storage in TREs.\n	How to address
the ethical\, legal and social implications of genomic data sharing and u
se in TREs.\n	How to increase public awareness and trust in genomic data u
se and benefit in TREs.\n\n\nMore information\n\nSee the conference websit
