DESCRIPTION:In many domains of research the rapid generation of large amoun
 ts of data is fundamentally changing how research is done. The deluge of d
 ata presents great opportunities\, but also many challenges in managing\, 
 analyzing and sharing data. \n\nData Carpentry workshops are designed to t
 each basic concepts\, skills and tools for working more effectively with d
 ata. The workshop is aimed at researchers in the life sciences at all care
 er stages and is designed for learners with little to no prior knowledge o
 f programming\, shell scripting\, or command line tools. \n\nDuring this c
 ourse you will learn about:\n\n*How to use spreadsheet programs (such as E
 xcel) more effectively\, and the limitations of such programs\n*Getting da
 ta out of spreadsheets and into more powerful tools (R)\n*Data management 
 and manipulation\n*Data visualization\n*Workflows and automating repetitiv
 e tasks\, in particular using the command line shell\n\nThis event is orga
