DESCRIPTION:This one-day course is primarily aimed at life science research
ers\, but covers many topics that are applicable to other fields. It combi
nes key theoretical knowledge with practical application\, which will aid
researchers in designing effective experiments. The focus throughout the c
ourse is to link experimental design to a clear analysis strategy. This en
sures that the collected data will be suitable for statistical analysis.\n
During this course\, we cover:\n\n*Practices in experimental design that l
ead to high quality research\n*Common design pitfalls\, and how to avoid o
r mitigate them\n*A brief introduction to more advanced analysis technique
s for experiments with unusual or complex designs\n\nTopics included in th
e course include: crafting a good research question\, operationalising var
iables effectively\, identifying and dealing with confounding variables an
d pseudoreplication\, and practical tips for power analysis and piloting.\
n\nThe course is delivered via a mix of lectures\, group discussion and wo
rked examples. \n\n\n\nIf you do not have a University of Cambridge [Raven
  account](https://legacy.raven.cam.ac.uk/auth/account/) please book or reg
 ister your interest [here](http://bioinfotraining.bio.cam.ac.uk/booking-fo
 rm/?event-id=4808889&amp\;course-title=Experimental%20Design%20for%20stati
 stical%20analysis%20in-person).\n\nAdditional information\n\n* ♿ The tra
ining room is located on the first floor and there is currently no wheelch
air or level access.\n* Our courses are only free for registered Universit
y of Cambridge students. All other participants will be charged according
 to our [charging policy](http://www.training.cam.ac.uk/bioinformatics/inf
o/charging).\n* Attendance will be taken on all courses and a charge is ap
plied for non-attendance\, including for University of Cambridge students.
After you have booked a place\, if you are unable to attend any of the li
ve sessions\, please email the [Bioinfo Team](https://training.csx.cam.ac.
 uk/bioinformatics/info/contact).\n* Further details regarding eligibility
 criteria are available [here](http://www.training.cam.ac.uk/bioinformatics
