DESCRIPTION:Image\n \n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\nThis is a
 face-to-face course\n\n-------------------------------------------\n\nThis
training is organised in collaboration with the Helis Academy. More info
rmation see https://helisacademy.com/\n\nExperimental research in life sc
iences can be complex. Understanding complicated biological processes\, qu
antifying the influence of environmental parameters on the growth of an or
ganism\, getting to grips with simultaneous impacting factors and their in
teractions\, optimizing research procedures or media recipes: all these re
quire factorial experiments.\n\nFactorial experiments can be very efficien
t\, but the number of possible combinations quickly gets out of hand. Rese
arch facilities have limited capacity and have all sorts of constraints th
at do not fit the textbook solutions to factorial experiments.\n\nIn this
course\, realistic research cases form the starting point for which we wil
l try to find practical solutions. We will tackle research questions by de
sign tailor-made factorial experiments within the budget and lab constrain
ts. Power analysis will be key to achieve this goal. Finally\, we will ana
lyse the expected output in a statistical sound manner\, interpret the res
ults and propose presentations.\n\nEverything will be very practical and h
ands-on. Design and analysis happen in R. R code will be made available.\n
\nWhile discussing these practical cases\, we will grab the opportunity to
introduce the general principals of fractional factorial designs\, optima
l designs and their analysis and interpretation.\n\nBy this approach we ho
pe to provide practical solutions while not too heavy dwelling on statisti
 cal theory.
