DESCRIPTION:# Overview\nR is a complete\, flexible and open source system f
or statistical analysis and graphics\, which has become a tool of choice f
or biologists and biomedical scientists who need to analyse and visualise
large amounts of data. Due to its popularity\, R is continuously updated a
nd extended with the latest libraries for data manipulation\, modelling an
 d visualisation. \n\nThis 2-day course provides an introduction to R and R
studio\, an integrated development environment for R\, in an interactive m
anner. Participants will receive example data sets to practice data manipu
lation\, graphical exploration and statistical hypothesis testing.\n\n# Au
dience\nThis course is designed for PhD students\, postdoctoral and other
researchers in the life sciences from both academia and industry who want
to become familiar with the R syntax\, environment\, and the most common c
ommands to start using R to explore and interpret their data.\n\n# Learnin
g outcomes\nAt the end of the course\, participants are expected to:\n* us
 e the R environment to read\, understand and write R commands\n* implement
a data analysis workflow to import\, explore and summarise data\n* explor
e data with graphs\n* perform simple statistical tests\n\n\n# Prerequisite
s\n#### ***Knowledge / competencies***\nNo background in R or any programm
ing language is required. If you wish to get an early start on the course
content\, you can scan some of the R documentation available [here](http:
 //cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/r-release/R-intro.html).\n\nPlease note t
hat **this course does not provide training on statistics** but on how to
use R to perform different tasks\, statistics being one of them.\n\n#### *
 **Technical***\nA Wi-Fi enabled laptop with latest [R](https://www.r-proje
 ct.org/) and [RStudio](https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download/#
download) versions installed. There will be access to the eduroam and gues
 t network. \n\n# Application\n\n\n \n\nRegistration fees are **200 CHF** f
or academics and **1000 CHF** for for-profit companies. While participants
are registered on a first come\, first served basis\, exceptions may be m

ur registration is confirmed.\n\nApplications will close as soon as the pl
aces will be filled up. Deadline for free-of-charge cancellation is set to
**02/03/2026**. Cancellation after this date will not be reimbursed. Plea
se note that participation to SIB courses is subject to our [general condi
 tions](https://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-conditions).\n\nYou will b
e informed by email of your registration confirmation. Upon reception of t
he confirmation email\, participants will be asked to confirm attendance b
y paying the fees within 5 days.\n\n\n# Venue and time\nThe course will ta
ke place in at the University of Zurich.\n\nIt will start at 9:00 and end
around 17:30.\n\nPrecise information will be provided to the participants
on due time.\n\n# Additional information\nCoordination: Geert van Geest\,
SIB Training Group.\n\nWe will recommend **0.5 ECTS credits** for this co
urse (given a passed exam at the end of the course).\n\nYou are welcome to
register to the SIB courses mailing list to be informed of all future cou
rses and workshops\, as well as all important deadlines using the form [he
 re](https://lists.sib.swiss/postorius/lists/courses.lists.sib.swiss/).\n\n
