DESCRIPTION:# Overview\nR is a complete\, flexible and open source system f
or statistical analysis and graphics\, which has become a tool of choice f
or biologists and biomedical scientists who need to analyse and visualise
large amounts of data. Due to its popularity\, R is continuously updated a
nd extended with the latest libraries for data manipulation\, modelling an
 d visualisation. \n\nThis 2-day course provides an introduction to R and R
studio\,an integrated development environment for R\, in an interactive ma
nner. Participants will receive example data sets to practise data manipul
ation\, graphical exploration and statistical hypothesis testing.\n\n# Aud
ience\nThis course is designed for PhD students\, postdoctoral and other r
esearchers in the life sciences from both academia and industry who want t
o become familiar with the R syntax\, environment\, and the most common co
mmands to start using R to explore and interpret their data.\n\n# Learning
outcomes\nAt the end of the course\, participants are expected to:\n* use
the R environment to read\, understand and write R commands\n* implement
a data analysis workflow to import\, explore and summarise data\n* explore
data with graphs\n* perform simple statistical tests\n\n\n# Prerequisites
\n#### ***Knowledge / competencies***\nNo background in R or any programmi
ng language is required. If you wish to get an early start on the course c
ontent\, you can scan some of the R documentation available [here](http:/
 /cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/r-release/R-intro.html).\n\nPlease note th
at **this course does not provide training on statistics** but on how to u
se R to perform different tasks\, statistics being one of them.\n\n#### **
 *Technical***\nA Wi-Fi enabled laptop with latest [R](https://www.r-projec
 t.org/) and [RStudio](https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download/#d
ownload) versions installed. There will be access to the eduroam and guest
  network. \n\n# Application\n\n\n \n\nRegistration fees are **200 CHF** fo
r academics and **1000 CHF** for for-profit companies. While participants
are registered on a first come\, first served basis\, exceptions may be ma
de to ensure diversity and equity\, which may increase the time before you
r registration is confirmed.\n\nApplications will close as soon as the pla
ces will be filled up. Deadline for free-of-charge cancellation is set to
**21/09/2026**. Cancellation after this date will not be reimbursed. Pleas
e note that participation to SIB courses is subject to our [general condit
 ions](https://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-conditions).\n\nYou will be
informed by email of your registration confirmation. Upon reception of th
e confirmation email\, participants will be asked to confirm attendance by
paying the fees within 5 days.\n\n\n# Venue and time\nThe course will tak
e place in at the University of Geneva.\n\nIt will start at 9:00 and end a
round 17:30.\n\nPrecise information will be provided to the participants o
 n due time.\n\n# Additional information\nCoordination: Valeria Di Cola\,
SIB Training Group.\n\nWe will recommend **0.5 ECTS credits** for this cou
rse (given a passed exam at the end of the course).\n\nYou are welcome to
register to the SIB courses mailing list to be informed of all future cour
ses and workshops\, as well as all important deadlines using the form [her
 e](https://lists.sib.swiss/postorius/lists/courses.lists.sib.swiss/).\n\nS
IB abides by the [ELIXIR Code of Conduct](https://elixir-europe.org/events
/code-of-conduct). Participants of SIB courses are also required to abide
by the same code.\n\nFor more information\, please contact [training@sib.s
