DESCRIPTION:Please note: this course is now full.  Any further registratio
ns will be added to a waiting list and we will let you know right away if
a place becomes available.\n\nPlease note: change of venue due to building
works.\n\nGraphics Processing Units (GPUs) were originally developed for
computer gaming and other graphical tasks\, but for many years have been e
xploited for general purpose computing across a number of areas. They offe
r advantages over traditional CPUs because they have greater computational
capability\, and use high-bandwidth memory systems (where memory bandwidt
h is the main bottleneck for many scientific applications).\n\nThis introd
uctory course will describe GPUs\, and the advantages they offer. It will
teach participants how to get started with programming GPUs\, which cannot
be used in isolation but as "accelerators" in conjunction with CPUs\, and
how to get good performance.\n\nThe course focuses on NVIDIA GPUs\, and t
he CUDA programming language (an extension to C/C++ or Fortran).\n\nHands-
on practical sessions are included.\n\nYou will require to bring your lapt
op.  The training will be run on a web-based system so all you will need
is a relatively recent web browser (Firefox or Chrome work best).\n\nThe c
ourse format will be:\n\nTuesday 11th Oct - Mixture of lectures and practi
cal activities\n	Wednesday 12th Oct - Morning Only - Seminar on tutor\, Al
an Gray's\, own work with GPUs\, and a chance to follow up any issues with
course participants. Room TBC\nDetailed course timetable and materials.\n
