 , followed by a practical training session.\n\n[openBIS](https://labnotebo
 ok.ch/) is a combined data management platform\, Electronic Laboratory Not
 ebook\, and Inventory Management System. openBIS helps scientists meet req
 uirements from funding agencies\, journals\, and academic institutions to 
 publish data according to the FAIR data principles. Scientists can use ope
 nBIS to document their daily experimental or computational work\, store an
 y related experimental raw and derived data\, and link everything to mater
 ials\, samples and protocols stored in the lab inventory. The system ensur
 es safe data storage and provenance tracking.\n\nopenBIS is open-source so
 ftware distributed under the Apache v2.0 licence\, developed by [ETH Zuric
 h Scientific IT Services](https://sis.id.ethz.ch/) (ETH SIS). ETH SIS prov
 ides openBIS to academic research groups in CH as part of its  [openRDM.sw
 iss](https://labnotebook.ch/index.php/openrdm-swiss/) service.\n\n# Audien
 ce\nThis course is intended for life scientists and bioinformaticians\, su
 ch as PhD students\, post-docs and staff scientists.\n\n# Learning objecti
 ves\nAt the end of the course\, the participants are expected to:\n* use t
 he openBIS inventory of material and samples\n* use the openBIS inventory 
 of laboratory protocols\n* document projects and experiments in the openBI
 S lab notebook and upload data\n* analyse data stored in openBIS with Jupy
 ter or MATLAB\n\n# Prerequisites\n##### Knowledge / competencies\nNo previ
 ous knowledge is required.\n\n##### Technical\nThis course will be **strea
 med**\, you are thus required to have your own computer with an Internet c
 onnection.\n\nAn openBIS test server will be made available to participant
 s on the day of the course. Test cases will be provided by the instructors
 \; however you are invited to bring your own data for testing.\n\n# Applic
 ation\nThe registration fees for academics are **100 CHF**. Participants f
 rom non-academic institutions should contact us before applying. While par
 ticipants are registered on a first come\, first served basis\, exceptions
  may be made to ensure diversity and equity\, which may increase the time 
 before your registration is confirmed.\n\nYou will be informed by email of
  your registration confirmation. Upon reception of the confirmation email\
 , participants will be asked to confirm attendance by paying the fees with
 in 5 days.\n\nDeadline for registration and free-of-charge cancellation is
  set is set to **20/06/2023**. Cancellation after this date will not be re
