Introduction to Practical Bioinformatics

This course was intended for beginners with little or no prior experience in bioinformatics, and the content was specifically designed for newcomers. The course was open to PhD and MSc students, staff members, and researchers affiliated with HCMR, NHMC, FORTH, and UoC.
Course topics include:
- Introduction to different operating systems (OS)
- Introduction to the command line and software installation
- Introduction to GitHub (basics)
- How to use Visual Studio Code
- Introduction to programming languages (R and Python)
- Working on servers and clusters (HPC)
- Introduction to workflow design (basic bash scripting, error and log file handling)
- Biological databases (GenBank, EMBL, RefSeq, etc.)
- Running basic bioinformatics tools
- Plotting and statistical analysis using a programming language
