DESCRIPTION:Objectives:\n\nThe objective of this practical supercomputing c
 ourse is to cover the basics of high-performance computing (HPC) environme
 nt oriented toward Earth Sciences applications\, specifically weather and 
 climate modeling. Participants will learn and gain experience about how to
  access an HPC facility\, install Earth Science models and related utiliti
 es\, run test cases\, monitor an execution of supercomputing jobs in batch
  mode\, analyze and visualize model results\, etc.\n\nMore precisely\, the
  course will cover:\n\nIntroduction to Earth Science fundamentals and mode
 ling\n	Basic usage of an HPC environment: shell\, compilers\, libraries\, 
 file systems\, queuing system\, etc.\n	Build and configure a targeted Eart
 h Science application (NMMB/BSC Model)\n	Execute and monitor numerical exp
 eriment\n	Analyse and visualize model outputs\nLearning Outcomes: After co
 mpleting this course the participants will gain basic know-how about acces
 sing\, building\, running\, and analyzing a set of Earth Sciences numerica
 l models. Furthermore\, the students will obtain a general knowledge on Ea
 rth Sciences applications within an HPC environment. The course aims to pr
 ovide basic HPC skills for future Earth Sciences modelers and HPC users in
  general.\n\nLevel: (All courses are designed for specialists with at leas
 t 1st cycle degree or similar background experience)\nFor trainees with so
 me theoretical and practical knowledge\n\nPrerequisites: \nAt least Univer
 sity degree in progress on Earth Sciences\, Computer Sciences or related a
 rea\nBasic knowledge of UNIX\nKnowledge of C\, FORTRAN\, MPI or openMP is 
 recommended\nKnowledge of Earth Sciences data formats is recommended (grib
