DESCRIPTION:## Overview \nThis course is designed to provide researchers i
n biomedical sciences with experience in the application of basic statisti
cal analysis techniques to a variety of biological problems.\nIt will comb
ine lectures on statistics and practical exercises\, during which the part
icipants will learn how to work with the widely used "R" language and envi
ronment for statistical computing and graphics.\nTopics covered during the
course include: reminders about numerical and graphical summaries\, and
hypothesis testing\; multiple testing\, linear models\, correlation and re
gression\, dimensionality reduction such as principal component analysis\,
heatmaps and the basis of clustering algorithms. Participants will also h
ave the opportunity to ask questions about the analysis of their own data
. \n\n## Audience\nThe typical profile is a biologist needing to perform
statistical analyses using R.\n\n## Learning outcomes\nAt the end of the c
ourse\, the participants are expected to:\n\n	choose the right method to s
ummarize a dataset\, graphically and numerically\n	perform basic hypothesi
s tests on a datatest\n	assess whether different variables are linked\, us
ing correlation and regression analysis\n	use the R statistical package to
run statistical analyses and interpret their outcome\n	use dimensionality
reduction to overcome problems of big data\n	perform clustering on datase
ts\n	visualise complex data using heatmaps\n	use dimensionality reduction
such as principal component analysis to overcome problems of big data\n \n
 \n\n## Prerequisites\nTechnical:\n\n	A laptop with a wifi connection\n	Sof
tware to be installed PRIOR to the course: R\, R Studio\n\nKnowledge / com
petencies: \n\nNo prior statistical knowledge is required in order to atte
nd the course\nParticipants do not need any experience in R before the cou
rse\n\n\n# Application\n\n\nThe registration fees for academics are **400
CHF** and **2000 CHF** for for-profit companies.\n\nYou will be informed b
y email of your registration confirmation. Upon reception of the confirmat
ion email\, participants will be asked to confirm attendance by paying the
fees within 5 days.\n\nApplications close on *14/01/2026*. Deadline for f
ree-of-charge cancellation is set to *14/01/2026*. Cancellation after this
date will not be reimbursed. Please note that participation in SIB course
s is subject to our [general conditions](https://www.sib.swiss/training/te
rms-and-conditions).\n\n\n\n# Venue &amp\; Time\n\nThe course will take pl
ace at the University of Lausanne.\n	\nIt will start at 9:00 and end aroun
d 17:00 every day. \n	\nMore information will be provided to the participa
nts in due time.\n\n## Additional information\nCoordination: Grégoire Ros
sier\n\nWe will recommend 1 ECTS credits for this course (given a passed
exam at the end of the course).\n\nYou are welcome to register to the SIB
courses mailing list to be informed of all future courses and workshops\,
as well as all important deadlines using the form [here](https://lists.sib
 .swiss/postorius/lists/courses.lists.sib.swiss/).\n\nPlease note that part
icipation in SIB courses is subject to our [general conditions](https://ww
w.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-conditions).\n\nSIB abides by the [ELIXIR C
 ode of Conduct](https://elixir-europe.org/events/code-of-conduct). Partici
pants of SIB courses are also required to abide by the same code.\n\nFor m
