DESCRIPTION:## Overview \nThis course is designed to provide researchers i
n biomedical sciences with experience in the application of basic statisti
cal analysis techniques to a variety of biological problems.\nThe course w
ill combine lectures on statistics and practical exercises\, during which
the participants will learn how to work with the widely used "R" language
and environment for statistical computing and graphics.\nTopics covered du
ring the course include: reminders about numerical and graphical summarie
 s\, and hypothesis testing\; multiple testing\, linear models\, correlatio
n and regression\, dimensionality reduction such as principal component an
alysis\, heatmaps and the basis of clustering algorithms. Participants wil
l also have the opportunity to ask questions about the analysis of their
own data. \n\n## Audience\nThis typical profile is a biologist needing to
perform statistical analyses using R.\n\n## Learning outcomes\nAt the end
of the course\, the participants are expected to:\n\n	choose the right me
thod to summarize a dataset\, graphically and numerically\n	perform basic
hypothesis tests on a datatest\n	assess whether different variables are li
nked\, using correlation and regression analysis\n	use the R statistical p
ackage to run statistical analyses and interpret their outcome\n	use dimen
sionality reduction to overcome problems of big data\n	perform clustering
on datasets\n	visualise complex data using heatmaps\n	use dimensionality r
eduction such as principal component analysis to overcome problems of big
 data\n \n\n\n## Prerequisites\nTechnical:\n\n	A laptop with a wifi connect
ion\n	Software to be installed PRIOR to the course: R\, R Studio\n\nKnowle
dge / competencies: \n\nNo prior statistical knowledge is required in orde
r to attend the course\nParticipants do not need any experience in R befor
 e the course\n\n\n# Application\n\n\nThe registration fees for academics a
 re **400 CHF** and **2000 CHF** for for-profit companies.\n\nYou will be i
nformed by email of your registration confirmation. Upon reception of the
confirmation email\, participants will be asked to confirm attendance by p
aying the fees within 5 days.\n\nApplications close on *14/01/2026*. Deadl
ine for free-of-charge cancellation is set to *14/01/2026*. Cancellation a
fter this date will not be reimbursed. Please note that participation in S
IB courses is subject to our [general conditions](https://www.sib.swiss/tr
 aining/terms-and-conditions).\n\n\n\n# Venue &amp\; Time\n\nThe course wil
l take place at the University of Lausanne.\n	\nIt will start at 9:00 and
end around 17:00 every day. \n	\nMore information will be provided to the
participants in due time.\n\n## Additional information\nCoordination: Gré
goire Rossier\n\nWe will recommend 1 ECTS credits for this course (given
a passed exam at the end of the course).\n\nYou are welcome to register to
the SIB courses mailing list to be informed of all future courses and wor
kshops\, as well as all important deadlines using the form [here](https://
 lists.sib.swiss/postorius/lists/courses.lists.sib.swiss/).\n\nPlease note
that participation in SIB courses is subject to our [general conditions](h
 ttps://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-conditions).\n\nSIB abides by the
