DESCRIPTION:# Overview \nThis course is designed to provide researchers in
biomedical sciences with experience in the application of basic statistic
al analysis techniques to a variety of biological problems.\nThe course wi
ll combine lectures on statistics and practical exercises\, during which t
he participants will learn how to work with the widely used "R" language a
nd environment for statistical computing and graphics.\nTopics covered dur
ing the course include: reminders about numerical and graphical summaries\
 , and hypothesis testing\; multiple testing\, linear models\, correlation
and regression\, and other topics. Participants will also have the opportu
nity to ask questions about the analysis of their own data.\n\n# Audience\
nThis typical profile is a biologist needing to perform statistical analys
es using R.\n\n# Learning outcomes\nAt the end of the course\, the partici
pants are expected to:\n\n	choose the right method to summarize a dataset\
, graphically and numerically\n	perform basic hypothesis tests on a datate
st\n	assess whether different variables are linked\, using correlation and
regression analysis\n	Use the R statistical package to run statistical an
 alyses and interpret their outcome\n\n\n# Prerequisites\nTechnical:\n\n	A
laptop with a wifi connection\n	Software to be installed PRIOR to the cour
 se: R\, R Studio\n\nKnowledge / competencies: \n\nNo prior statistical kno
wledge is required in order to attend the course\nParticipants do not need
any experience in R before the course\n\n\n# Application\n\n\nRegistratio
n fees for academics are 300 CHF and 1500 CHF for for-profit companies. \
n\nWhile participants are registered on a first come\, first served basis\
, exceptions may be made to ensure diversity and equity\, which may increa
se the time before your registration is confirmed.\n\nDeadline for free-of

e will not be reimbursed. Please note that participation to SIB courses is
  subject to our [general conditions](https://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-
and-conditions).\n\nYou will be informed by email of your registration con
firmation. Upon reception of the confirmation email\, participants will be
asked to confirm attendance by paying the fees within 5 days.\n\n\n\n# Ve

ourse.\n\nPrecise information will be provided to the participants on due
 time.\n\n# Additional information\nCoordination: Valeria Di Cola\n\nWe wil
l recommend 0.75 ECTS credits for this course (given a passed exam at the
end of the course).\n\nYou are welcome to register to the SIB courses mail
ing list to be informed of all future courses and workshops\, as well as a
ll important deadlines using the form [here](https://lists.sib.swiss/posto
 rius/lists/courses.lists.sib.swiss/).\n\nPlease note that participation in
