DESCRIPTION:This course is full. From now on\, any new application will be
put onto the waiting list. Applicants will only be contacted if a place be
comes available. \n\n\n\n# Overview \nThis course is designed to provide
researchers in biomedical sciences with experience in the application of b
asic statistical analysis techniques to a variety of biological problems.\
nThe course will combine lectures on statistics and practical exercises\,
during which the participants will learn how to work with the widely used
"R" language and environment for statistical computing and graphics.\nTopi
cs covered during the course include: reminders about numerical and graph
ical summaries\, and hypothesis testing\; multiple testing\, linear models
\, correlation and regression\, dimensionality reduction such as principal
component analysis\, heatmaps and the basis of clustering algorithms. Par
ticipants will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the analy
sis of their own data. \n\n# Audience\nThis typical profile is a biologis
t needing to perform statistical analyses using R.\n\n# Learning outcomes\
nAt the end of the course\, the participants are expected to:\n\n	choose t
he right method to summarize a dataset\, graphically and numerically\n	per
form basic hypothesis tests on a datatest\n	assess whether different varia
bles are linked\, using correlation and regression analysis\n	use the R st
atistical package to run statistical analyses and interpret their outcome\
n	use dimensionality reduction to overcome problems of big data\n	perform
clustering on datasets\n	visualise complex data using heatmaps.\n \n\n\n#
 Prerequisites\nTechnical:\n\n	A laptop with a wifi connection\n	Software t
 o be installed PRIOR to the course: R\, R Studio\n\nKnowledge / competenci
es: \n\nNo prior statistical knowledge is required in order to attend the
course\nParticipants do not need any experience in R before the course\n\n
\n# Application\nThis course is full. From now on\, any new application wi
ll be put onto the waiting list. Applicants will only be contacted if a pl
ace becomes available. \n\nRegistration fees for academics are 240 CHF and
1200 CHF for for-profit companies. \n\nWhile participants are registered
on a first come\, first served basis\, exceptions may be made to ensure d
iversity and equity\, which may increase the time before your registration
is confirmed.\n\nDeadline for free-of-charge cancellation is set to **23/
01/2023**. Cancellation after this date will not be reimbursed. Please not
e that participation to SIB courses is subject to our [general conditions]
 (https://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-conditions).\n\nYou will be info
rmed by email of your registration confirmation. Upon reception of the con
firmation email\, participants will be asked to confirm attendance by payi
 ng the fees within 5 days.\n\n\n\n# Venue &amp\; Time\n\nThe course will t
ake place at the University of Lausanne.\n	\nIt will start at 9:00 and end
around 17:00 every day. \n	\nPlease note that a social dinner will be org
anised on 06 February after the course.\n\nPrecise information will be pro
vided to the participants on due time.\n\n# Additional information\nCoordi
nation: Diana Marek\n\nWe will recommend 1 ECTS credits for this course (g
iven a passed exam at the end of the course).\n\nYou are welcome to regist
er to the SIB courses mailing list to be informed of all future courses an
d workshops\, as well as all important deadlines using the form [here](htt
 ps://lists.sib.swiss/mailman/listinfo/courses).\n\nPlease note that partic
ipation in SIB courses is subject to our [general conditions](https://www.
