DESCRIPTION:The Unix shell (command line) is a powerful and essential tool
for modern researchers\, in particular those working in computational disc
iplines such as bioinformatics and large-scale data analysis. In this cour
se we will explore the basic structure of the Unix operating system and ho
w we can interact with it using a basic set of commands. You will learn ho
w to navigate the filesystem\, manipulate text-based data and combine mult
iple commands to quickly extract information from large data files. You wi
ll also learn how to write scripts\, use programmatic techniques to automa
te task repetition. \n\n\nIf you do not have a University of Cambridge [Ra
 ven account](https://legacy.raven.cam.ac.uk/auth/account/) please book or
 register your interest [here](http://bioinfotraining.bio.cam.ac.uk/booking

eelchair or level access.\n* Our courses are only free for registered Univ
ersity of Cambridge students. All other participants will be charged accor

is applied for non-attendance\, including for University of Cambridge stud
ents. After you have booked a place\, if you are unable to attend any of t
he live sessions\, please email the [Bioinfo Team](https://training.csx.ca
