DESCRIPTION:The Unix shell (command line) is a powerful and essential tool
for modern researchers\, in particular those working in computational disc
iplines such as bioinformatics and large-scale data analysis. In this cour
se we will explore the basic structure of the Unix operating system and ho
w we can interact with it using a basic set of commands. You will learn ho
w to navigate the filesystem\, manipulate text-based data and combine mult
iple commands to quickly extract information from large data files. You wi
ll also learn how to write scripts and use programmatic techniques to auto
mate task repetition.\n\n\nIf you do not have a University of Cambridge [R
 aven account](https://legacy.raven.cam.ac.uk/auth/account/) please book or
  register your interest [here](http://bioinfotraining.bio.cam.ac.uk/bookin
 g-form/?event-id=4809097&amp\;course-title=Introduction%20to%20working%20w
 ith%20Unix%20and%20bash%20online).\n\nAdditional information\n\n* Our cour
ses are only free for registered University of Cambridge students. All oth
er participants will be charged according to our [charging policy](http:/

be taken on all courses and a charge is applied for non-attendance\, inclu
ding for University of Cambridge students. After you have booked a place\,
if you are unable to attend any of the live sessions\, please email the [
