 d. With intensified community involvement form the ISCB Communities of Spe
 cial Interest (COSIs)\, ISMB is the leading conference in the field\, with
  the strongest scientific and technical program that showcases the best in
 ternational developments in bioinformatics and computational biology.\n\nE
 LIXIR Special Session at ISMB 2018\n\nPublic life sciences data resources 
 are ubiquitously used in biology\, biotechnology\, pharma and many other d
 omains: they are essential for the global research community. However\, th
 e growth in size and use of these resources contrast with funding uncertai
 nty. These global resources are dependent on narrow and short-term nationa
 l and charitable funding sources and there is a risk of losing key resourc
 es or of having key resources retreat behind paywalls.\n\nThis session wil
 l introduce the ELIXIR Core Data Resources\, the proposed Coalition for Co
 re Data Resources\, and a number of large data resources\, with the goal o
 f introducing the concept of core data resources and the challenges of sus
 taining the global life sciences infrastructure with a time horizon measur
 ed in decades rather than years.
