Join de.NBI and de.KCD for an intensive five-day Summer School at the intersection of life sciences, cloud computing, and research data management. Researchers at all career stages and highly motivated students will explore state-of-the-art methods in genomics, metagenomics, and pangenomics, from reproducible workflows on the de.NBI Cloud to sustainable data sharing with FAIR principles. The Summer School will be a mixture of key-notes, expert lectures and hands-on tutorials and offers, beyond the technical skills, a unique opportunity to connect with community experts as well as other researchers.

Keywords: bioinformatics, genomics, metagenomics, pangenomics, cloud computing, RDM, de.NBI, de.KCD

Venue: Heinrich-Buff-Ring 26, 26 Heinrich-Buff-Ring

City: Gießen

Country: Germany

Postcode: 35392

Prerequisites:

Who can attend?

The program is aimed at early career scientist like PhD students and Postdocs in computational biology, but also researcher like experimental biologists and medical scientists holding at least a Masters degree who want to begin data analysis or are seeking a better understanding of computational (meta/pan-)genomics, analysis of popular sequencing methods, cloud technologies and FAIR data management.

Prerequisites

Participants are expected to have some basic understanding of molecular biology and sequence bases analysis. As many of the hands-on sessions are based on using the Linux command line, prior experience with it is also required.

Application and Selection Process

Applicants are required to submit some details on their background and motivation as part of the registration process. As the number of participants is limited, registrations will be reviewed and participants selected on the basis of the (level of details and usefulness of the) given information.

Learning objectives:

This Summer School covers different topics spread across individual days, where the participants will get introduced to the theoretical background followed by practical hands-on session that teaches how to deal with and analyze different data sets.

Day 1: Welcome, Cloud Introduction, Virtual Environments
Day 2: Genomics - QA/QC, Assembly & Annotation, Comparative Genomics, Genome Databases & Repositories
Day 3: Metagenomics - Assembly, Binning, MAGs, Classification & Annotation, Co-Occurence Analysis
Day 4: Pangenomics - Diversity Analysis, Core Detection, Phylogenomic Reconstruction
Day 5: RDM - General Data Management, Cloud-Based RDM, FAIRDOM SEEK
