DESCRIPTION:# Overview\nThe FAIR (Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable and
Reusable) principles provide guidelines for making research data and othe
r resources more easily discoverable and reusable\, which can help increas
e your research's impact and exposure. Adhering to these principles also e
nsures that your research is more reliable and reproducible\, as others ca
n more easily access and provide feedback. In addition\, making your resea
rch FAIR can promote the principles of open science and make it easier for
others to contribute to and build upon your work. Finally\, many funding
agencies and journals now expect that your research outputs be made FAIR a
s a condition of funding or publication\, so adhering to these principles
can help to ensure that your research meets these requirements.\n\nSharing
and reusing data\, software\, and documentation is essential to the FAIR
principles and should be a routine task for scientists. Researchers can ac
hieve this by providing all necessary information (data\, software and par
ameters used\, scripts for the analysis\, databases and their versions) an
d using markdown to create a single file that can be easily shared as a we
b page.\n\n# Audience\nThis course is addressed to computational biologist
 s\, bioinformaticians\, researchers\, scientists and trainers working in t
he life sciences who want to learn how to make their research and training
FAIRer with reproducible notebooks and websites.\n\n# Learning outcomes\n
In this course\, participants will learn tools and concepts to take signif
icant steps towards adhering to the FAIR principles\, which will enhance t
he benefits of sharing and collaboration in research. More specifically\,
at the end of the course\, the participants are expected to:\n* Create not
ebooks and websites based on Markdown\, and Python or R with Quarto\n* Use
Git and GitHub to version control the generated content\n* Host a website
by making use of GitHub actions and GitHub pages\n* Link the GitHub repo
sitory to Zenodo and give it a unique identifier (DOI)\n\n# Prerequisites
\n##### Knowledge / competencies\nParticipants are expected to have an int
roductory level in programming with R or Python. \n##### Technical\nPartic
ipants should have a GitHub account and bring their laptops with either th
e latest versions of RStudio or VSCode pre-installed.\n\n# Schedule - CET
time zone\n\n# Application\nThe registration fees for academics are 100 CH
F and 500 CHF for for-profit companies.\n\nWhile participants are register
ed on a first come\, first served basis\, exceptions may be made to ensure
diversity and equity\, which may increase the time before your registrati
on is confirmed.\n\nYou will be informed by email of your registration con
firmation. Upon reception of the confirmation email\, participants will be
asked to confirm attendance by paying the fees within 5 days.\n\nApplicat

ed. Deadline for free-of-charge cancellation is set to 28.06.2024. Cancell
ation after this date will not be reimbursed. Please note that participati
on in SIB courses is subject to our [general conditions](https://www.sib.s
wiss/training/terms-and-conditions).\n\n# Venue and Time\nThis course will
be streamed. \n\nThe course will start at 9:00 and end around 17:00. \n\n
Precise information will be provided to the participants in due time.\n\n\
 n# Additional information\nCoordination: Grégoire Rossier\n\nWe will rec
ommend 0.25 ECTS credits for this course (given a passed exam at the end o
f the course).\n\nYou are welcome to register to the SIB courses mailing l
ist to be informed of all future courses and workshops\, as well as all im
portant deadlines using the form [here](https://lists.sib.swiss/mailman/li
stinfo/courses).\n\nPlease note that participation in SIB courses is subje
 ct to our [general conditions](https://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-co
