DESCRIPTION:Educators:\nProf. Dr. Stefan Janssen\, Anna Rehm (BiGi)\n\nDate
 :\nOct 8th-10th 2024\n\nLocation:\nJustus Liebig University\nHeinrich-Buff
-Ring 58\n35392 Giessen\nRoom 0024a\n\nContents:\nThe microbiome is the ec
ological community of commensal\, symbiotic and pathogenic microorganisms
found in and on all multicellular organisms from plants to animals. It has
been found to be crucial for immunologic\, hormonal and metabolic homeost
asis of its host. In this workshop\, we aim to not only introduce you to t
he all the necessary basic methods to analyse a microbiome experiment\, li
ke processing your raw data\, statistical testing and quality control. Add
itionally\, we want to introduce you to Qiita\, a microbial study manageme
nt platform used to manage and compute studies with microbiome data. This
framework establishes an easily accessible way for non-computational scien
tists to analyse their own data with the option of using pre-defined workf
lows or building their own. Afterwards\, we will explore the microbiome an
alysis pipeline QIIME2 to delve further into our data sets and to enable y
ou to be able to take your first steps towards your own analysis.\n\nLearn
ing goals:\n• To understand the principles and applications of 16S ampli
con sequencing for microbiome research\n• To learn how to design\, perfo
rm\, and troubleshoot 16S amplicon experiments\, including sample collecti
 on\, DNA extraction\, PCR amplification\, library preparation\, and sequen
cing\n• To acquire the skills and tools to process\, analyze\, and inter
pret 16S amplicon data using various bioinformatics platforms\n• To expl
ore the diversity\, structure\, and function of microbial communities acro
ss different environments\, hosts\, and conditions using 16S amplicon data
\n• To critically evaluate the quality\, validity\, and limitations of 1
6S amplicon data and result\n\nPrerequisites:\nNone\n\nKeywords:\n16S Ampl
