DESCRIPTION:\n\nAnnotation\n\nMessage Passing Interface (MPI) is a dominant
programming model on clusters and distributed memory architectures. This
course is focused on users with some experience with MPI that want to deep
en their knowledge. The course briefly recapitulates basic concepts and de
scribes them in more detail. Then\, more advanced concepts will be describ
ed (e.g.\, one-sided communication\, parallel file I/O). Attendees will be
able to immediately test and understand all these constructs in hands-on
sessions.\n\nThis course was originally developed by Rolf Rabenseifner (HL
RS). The content level of the course is 40% for beginners\, 40% for interm
 ediate\, and 20% for advanced users.\n\nLevel\n\n40% for beginners\, 40% f
 or intermediate\, and 20% for advanced users\n\nLanguage\n\nEnglish\n\nPur
pose of the course (benefits for the attendees)\n\nAfter the course\, att
endees should know the majority of MPI functions and should be aware of th
eir appropriate use in order to write highly scalable applications.\n\nAbo
ut the tutor(s)\n\nOndřej Meca holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science f
rom VSB - Technical University of Ostrava\, Czech Republic. He is currentl
y a member of the Infrastructure Research Lab at IT4Innovations National S
upercomputing Center. His research interests include verification of paral
lel algorithms\, development of pre/post-processing algorithms for large-s
cale engineering problems\, and development of highly-scalable linear solv
ers.\n\nClaudia Blaas-Schenner is an active member of the MPI Forum\, i.e.
\, the standardization body for MPI\, and acts as a chapter committee chai
r for MPI Terms and Conventions. Currently\, she is affiliated at the VSC
Research Center of TU Wien (Austria) where she is involved in teaching and
responsible for developing a training and education program in HPC. She h
olds a Ph.D. in Technical Physics from TU Wien\, has a strong backgroud in
computational materials science\, and more than 20 years of experience in
  applied HPC.\n\nPreliminary schedule\n\nDay 1: 9:00 - 15:00 (lunch break
 included)\n - Process model\, point-to-point communication (short summary
 )\n - Non-blocking communication (recapitulation)\n - Collective communi
 cation (blocking\, non-blocking)\n\nDay 2: 9:00 - 15:00 (lunch break inclu
 ded)\n - Groups and communicators\n - Virtual topologies\n - Derived da
 tatypes\n - Fortran and MPI\n\nDay 3: 9:00 - 13:00\n - One-sided communi
 cation\n - Shared memory one-sided communication\n - Parallel file I/O\n
\nAcknowledgements\n\nThe course is partially supported by The Ministry of
Education\, Youth and Sports from the Large Infrastructures for Research\
, Experimental Development and Innovations project  “e-Infrastruktura C
