DESCRIPTION:[ONLINE] Efficient Use of HPC Systems\n\nDescription\n\nThe pur
 pose of this course is to guide existing and potential users on how to eff
 iciently use HPC systems\, and to present typical HPC tools\, the software
  environment\, compilers\, libraries\, parallel environments\, batch syste
 m and best practices.\n\nThe trainees will learn what the HPC systems offe
 r\, how they work\, how to make efficient use of resources and how to appl
 y for access to PRACE and similar infrastructures.\n\nPrerequisites\n\nThe
  course is addressed to any potential user of an HPC infrastructure.  Bac
 kground in modules\, compilers\, MPI/OpenMP/Cuda\, batch systems and runni
 ng time consuming applications\, is desirable but not mandatory.\n\nThe ha
 nds-on sessions\, will take place on an HPC-like environment in a VirtualB
 ox image. Participants will be guided step by step on how to install and u
 se the VirtualBox at the beginning of hands-on sessions. \n\nCourse langua
 ge is English.\n\nRegistration\n\nRegistrations will be evaluated on a fir
 st-come\, first-served basis. GRNET is responsible for the selection of th
 e participants on the basis of the training requirements and the technical
  skills of the candidates. GRNET will also seek to guarantee the maximum 
 possible geographical coverage with the participation of candidates from m
 any countries.\n\nThe zoom room will be open about 1 hour prior to the cou
 rse schedule in order for the participants to test their connection.\n\nAb
 out the Tutors\n\n \n\nDr. Dimitris Dellis (Male) holds a B.Sc. in Chemis
 try (1990) and PhD in Computational Chemistry (1995) from the National and
  Kapodistrian University of Athens\, Greece. He has extensive HPC and grid
  computing experience. He is using HPC systems in computational chemistry 
 research projects.  In EGEE/EGI projects he acted as application support 
 and VO software manager for SEE VO\, grid sites administrator (HG-02\, GR-
 06)\, NGI_GRNET support staff (2008-2014). In PRACE 1-6 IP he is involved 
 in benchmarking tasks (2010-2020). Currently he is leader of the HPC team 
 at GRNET S.A.\n\nMr. Kyriakos Ginis received his Diploma in Electrical and
  Computer Engineering in 2003 from the National Technical University of At
 hens\, Greece. Between 2004 and 2014 he participated in the european proje
 cts EGEE I/II/III and EGI as a grid site administrator of the HellasGrid s
 ites HG-01-GRNET\, HG-06-EKT and HG-08-Okeanos. Since 2014 he works at GRN
 ET as a system administrator of the ARIS HPC system\, primarily responsibl
 e for hardware\, operating systems and file/storage systems. He continues 
 maintaining the HellasGrid sites HG-06 and HG-08\, and supports other GRNE
 T services such as the unique and persistent identifiers (PID) service\, a
 lso part of the EUDAT project.\n\nAbout GRNET\n\nGRNET - National Infrastr
 uctures for Research and Technology\, provides advanced network\, cloud co
 mputing and IT infrastructures and services to academic and research insti
 tutions\, to educational bodies at all levels\, as well as to agencies of 
 the public\, broader public and private sector. It holds a key role as the
  coordinator of all e-infrastructures in education and research\, leveragi
 ng the educational and research activity in the country towards the develo
 pment of applied and technological research. GRNET\, supervised by the Min
 istry of Digital Governance\, contributes to the country’s Digital Trans
 formation via in-depth analysis\, technological studies\, standard solutio
 ns and specialized know-how\, serving at the same time hundreds of thousan
 ds of users on a daily basis in the strategic fields of Public Administrat
