DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nThe cours is restricted to 30 participants.\n\nThe aim of
this course is to introduced the basic usages of the ScaLAPACK and MAGMA
libraries.\n\nScaLAPACK :\n\nThe ScaLAPACK (Scalable Linear Algebra PACKag
 e) is a library for high-performance dense linear algebra based on routine
s for distributed-memory message passing computers. It is mostly based on
a subset of LAPACK (Linear Algebra PACKage) and BLAS (Basic Linear Algebra
Subprograms) routines redesigned for distributed memory MIMD parallel com
puters where all the MPI communications are handled by routines provided b
y the BLACS (Basic Linear Algebra Communication Subprograms) library.\n\n
\nThe lecture will be mostly based on how to use the PBLAS  (Parallel BLA
 S) and ScaLAPACK libraries for linear algebra problems in HPC:\n \n\n\n	G
eneral introduction about the PBLAS and ScaLAPACK libraries\n	Main ideas h
ow to decompose the linear algebra problems in parallel programming\n	Exam
ples of basic operations with PBLAS : vector-vector\, vector-matrix and ma
trix-matrix operations\n	Examples of basic operations with ScaLAPACK : inv
ersion and diagonalization\n	Main problem based on calculating an exponent
iation of a matrix\n\n\nMAGMA:\n\nIn the second part of the course\, we pr
esent MAGMA (Matrix Algebra on GPU and Multicore Architectures) \, a dense
linear algebra library similar to LAPACK but for hybrid/heterogeneous arc
hitectures. We start by presenting basic concepts of GPU architecture and
giving an overview of communication schemes between CPUs and GPUs. Then\,
we  briefly present hybrid CPU/GPU programming models using the CUDA lang
uage.  Finally\, we present MAGMA and how it can be used to easily and ef
ficiently accelerate scientific codes\, particularly those already using B
LAS and LAPACK.\n\n\n\n\n\nTrainers:\n\n\n	Donfack Simplice (MAGMA)\n	Hasn
aoui Karim (ScaLAPACK)\n\n\nPrerequisites :\n\nC or C++ and Fortran progra
mming.\nNotions of linear algebra\, as well as notions of MPI\, would be a
 n asset.\nhttps://events.prace-ri.eu/event/1286/
