About the event

We invite all fellows and those with an interest in our work to the Royal Statistical Society's Statistical Excellence Awards, which will be followed by a reception.

Our annual Awards ceremony is the ideal time to celebrate all the fantastic work that has been done with statistics and data over the past year.

This year's ceremony will see the first award of The Florence Nightingale Award for Excellence in Healthcare Data Analytics, which has been launched in partnership with the Health Foundation. The award is in honour of Florence Nightingale – the first female fellow of the RSS, who revolutionised nursing through her statistical work and use of data visualisation. 2020 marks her bicentenary and the ceremony takes place on the date of her birth.

We will also for the first time, in partnership with the Office for Statistics Regulation and Civil Service World, be presenting the Voluntary Application Award. The awards celebrates organisations who show a commitment to the core pillars of trustworthiness, quality and value at the heart of the Code of Practice for Statistics.

Every year we recognise journalists’ outstanding use of data and statistics in the media with the Statistical Excellence in Journalism Awards, which are kindly sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

We will also commend, in partnership with the UK Statistics Authority, the work of statisticians in government with the Campion Award for Excellence in Official Statistics. We are grateful to Civil Service World which is, once again, the media partner for this prize.

The ceremony will be hosted by RSS's President, Professor Deborah Ashby.

Attendance is free and open to all, whether fellows of the RSS or not, but pre-registration is required.
