DESCRIPTION:This course aims to introduce the use of containers with the go
al of using them to effect reproducible computational environments. Such e
nvironments are useful for ensuring reproducible research outputs and for
simplifying the setup of complex software dependencies across different sy
stems. The course will mostly be based around the use of Docker containers
but the material will be of use for whatever container technology you pla
n to\, or end up\, using. We will also briefly introduce the Singularity c
ontainer environment which is compatible with Docker and designed for use
on multi-user systems (such as HPC resources). On completion of this cours
e attendees should:\n\n \n\n* Understand what containers are and what the
y are used for\n\n* Understand how to manage and create Docker containers\
n\n* Appreciate decisions that need to be made around containerising resea
rch workflows\n\n* Understand the differences between Docker and Singulari
ty containers and why Singularity is more suitable for multi-user systems
(e.g. HPC)\n\n* Understand how to manage and create Singularity containers
\n\n* Appreciate how containers can be used to enable and improve reproduc
ibility in research\n\nTrainers: Andy Turner (EPCC) and Jeremy Cohen (Impe
rial College) \n\n \n\nThis course has been extremely popular and is full
y booked with a long waiting list.  We will not be accepting further regi
strations for this run of the course but we hope to run it again sometime
 soon.\n\nFor further information\, see the course page.\nhttps://events.pr
