DESCRIPTION:**This course is now full.** You can still apply\, in which cas
e your application will be put onto the waiting list and you will be recon
tacted IF and ONLY IF a seat becomes available. Thank you for your underst
 anding.\n\n\n\n\n**Overview**\n\nSingle-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) all
ows researchers to study gene expression at the single cell level. For exa
mple\, scRNAseq can help to identify expression patterns that differ betwe
en conditions within a cell-type. To generate and analyze scRNAseq data\,
several methods are available\, all with their strengths and weaknesses de
pending on the researchers’ needs. This 3-day course will cover the main
technologies as well as the main aspects to consider while designing a sc
RNAseq experiment. In addition\, it will cover the theoretical background
of analysis methods with hands-on practical data analysis sessions applied
to droplet-based methods.\n\n**Audience**\n\nThis course is intended for
life scientists and bioinformaticians familiar with "Next Generation Seque
ncing" who want to acquire the necessary skills to analyse scRNA-seq gene
expression data.\n\n**Learning objectives**\n\nAt the end of the course\,
participants will be able to:\n\n * distinguish advantages and pitfalls o
 f scRNAseq\n * design their own scRNA-seq experiment\n * apply a downstr
eam analysis using R\n \n\n**Prerequisites**\n\n*Knowledge*\n\n* Particip
ants should already have a basic knowledge in Next Generation Sequencing (
NGS) techniques\, or have already followed the "[NGS - Quality control\, A
 lignment\, Visualisation](https://www.sib.swiss/training/course/20230220_N
GSQC)".\n* Knowledge in RNA sequencing is mandatory.\n* Basic knowledge of
R is required. [Test your R skills with the quiz here\, before registerin
 g](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdIyeuabd_ZOWXgI1MWHapmaOMu20L
 9ESkLDZiWnpmkpujyOg/viewform?usp=sf_link).\n\n\n\n*Technical*\n\nAttendees
should have a Wi-Fi enabled computer. **An online R and RStudio environme
nt will be provided.** However\, in case you wish to perform the practical
exercises on your own computer\, please take a moment to install the foll
owing before the course:\n* R version &gt\; 4.2.\n* Latest RStudio versi
on\, the free version is perfectly fine.\n\n\n\n**Program**\n\nThe program
will be communicated in due time. Program of past occurences can be found
  on [GitHub](https://sib-swiss.github.io/single-cell-training/course_sched
ule.html).\n\n\n\n**Application**\n\n**This course is now full.** You can
still apply\, in which case your application will be put onto the waiting
list and you will be recontacted IF and ONLY IF a seat becomes available.
Thank you for your understanding.\n\n\n\nThe registration fees for academi
cs are **300 CHF** and **1500 CHF** for for-profit companies. While partic
ipants are registered on a first come\, first served basis\, exceptions ma
y be made to ensure diversity and equity\, which may increase the time bef
ore your registration is confirmed.\n\nApplications will close once the pl
aces will be filled\, untll **08/10/2024**. Deadline for free-of-charge ca
ncellation is set to **16/10/2024**. Cancellation after this date will not
be reimbursed. Please note that participation in SIB courses is subject t
 o our [general conditions](https://www.sib.swiss/training/terms-and-condit
ions).\n\nYou will be informed by email of your registration confirmation.
Upon reception of the confirmation email\, participants will be asked to
confirm attendance by paying the fees within 5 days.\n\n**Venue and Time**
\n\n\n\n The course will ONLY take place\, in person\, at the Bellinzona I
nstitutes of Science (BIOS+) building\, Via Francesco Chiesa 5\, Bellinzon
a\, Ticino.\n\n\n\nIt will start at 9:00 CET and end around 17:00 CET ever
y day.\n\n Please note that a social "apero" will be organised on 29 Octo
ber after the course. \n\nPrecise information will be provided to the part
icipants in due time.\n\n\n**Additional information**\n\nCoordination: Dia
na Marek SIB Training group.\n\nWe will recommend 0.75 ECTS credits for th
is course (given a passed exam at the end of the course).\n\nYou are welco
me to register to the SIB courses mailing list to be informed of all futur
