DESCRIPTION:The videos of the lectures can be found on the [SIB YouTube cha
 nnel](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoCxWrRWjqB0Om3SokgjvMGi6UK37
 bvKX).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**Overview**\n\nSingle-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAs
eq) allows researchers to study gene expression at the single cell level.
For example\, scRNAseq can help to identify expression patterns that diffe
r between conditions within a cell-type. To generate and analyze scRNAseq
data\, several methods are available\, all with their strengths and weakne
sses depending on the researchers’ needs. This 3-day course will cover t
he main technologies as well as the main aspects to consider while designi
ng a scRNAseq experiment. In addition\, it will cover the theoretical back
ground of analysis methods with hands-on practical data analysis sessions
applied to droplet-based methods.\n\n**Audience**\n\nThis course is intend
ed for life scientists and bioinformaticians familiar with "Next Generatio
n Sequencing" who want to acquire the necessary skills to analyse scRNA-se
q gene expression data.\n\n**Learning objectives**\n\nAt the end of the co
urse\, participants will be able to:\n\n * distinguish advantages and pit
 falls of scRNAseq\n * design their own scRNA-seq experiment\n * apply a
 downstream analysis using R\n \n\n**Prerequisites**\n\n*Knowledge*\n\n* P
articipants should already have a basic knowledge in Next Generation Seque
ncing (NGS) techniques\, or have already followed the "[NGS - Quality cont
 rol\, Alignment\, Visualisation](https://www.sib.swiss/training/course/202
30220_NGSQC)".\n* Knowledge in RNA sequencing is mandatory.\n* Basic knowl
edge of R is required. [Test your R skills with the quiz here\, before reg
 istering](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdIyeuabd_ZOWXgI1MWHapm
 aOMu20L9ESkLDZiWnpmkpujyOg/viewform?usp=sf_link).\n\n\n\n*Technical*\n\nAt
tendees should have a Wi-Fi enabled computer. **An online R and RStudio en
vironment will be provided.** However\, in case you wish to perform the pr
actical exercises on your own computer\, please take a moment to install t
he following before the course:\n* R version &gt\; 4.2.\n* Latest RStudi
o version\, the free version is perfectly fine.\n\n\n\n**Program**\n\nThe
program will be communicated in due time. Program of past occurences can b
 e found on [GitHub](https://sib-swiss.github.io/single-cell-training/cours
 e_schedule.html).\n\n\n\n**Application**\n\n\n\n\n\nThe registration fees
for academics are **300 CHF** and **1500 CHF** for for-profit companies. W
hile participants are registered on a first come\, first served basis\, ex
ceptions may be made to ensure diversity and equity\, which may increase t
he time before your registration is confirmed.\n\nApplications will close
once the places will be filled\, untll **16/10/2024**. Deadline for regist
ration and free-of-charge cancellation is set to **21/10/2024**. Cancellat
ion after this date will not be reimbursed. Please note that participation
in SIB courses is subject to our [general conditions](https://www.sib.swi
ss/training/terms-and-conditions).\n\nYou will be informed by email of you
r registration confirmation. Upon reception of the confirmation email\, pa
rticipants will be asked to confirm attendance by paying the fees within 5
days.\n\n**Venue and Time**\n\n\n\nThe course will take place in Ticino\,
exact city and location to be announced.\nIt will start at 9:00 CET and e
nd around 17:00 CET every day.\n\n\n\nPrecise information will be provided
to the participants in due time.\n\n\n**Additional information**\n\nCoord
ination: Diana Marek SIB Training group.\n\nWe will recommend 0.75 ECTS cr
edits for this course (given a passed exam at the end of the course).\n\nY
ou are welcome to register to the SIB courses mailing list to be informed
of all future courses and workshops\, as well as all important deadlines u
 sing the form [here](https://lists.sib.swiss/mailman/listinfo/courses).\n\
