DESCRIPTION:The Beyond the Genome working group is pleased to announce Beyo
nd the Genome: ethical aspects of large cohort studies\, a one-day symposi
um at the University of Antwerp on February 3th\, 2023. \n\nThe symposium
will focus on the shift from curative medicine to preventive and personali
zed medicine. This requires the collection\, storage\, and processing of l
arge personal datasets. The new GDPR in the European Union protects the pe
rsonal data of European citizens. This has been applied to genomics\, yet
there are many other different -omics that may or may not contain relevant
personal data. With a special focus on proteomics. The symposium will foc
us on raising several important ethical questions and privacy risks based
on the ethical\, legal\, and societal implications (ELSI) framework. This
symposium aims to inform scientists and ethicists\, as well as people with
an interest in privacy regulations and participatory medicine. \n \nRegis
tration is mandatory and can be done via the following link: https://www.u
 antwerpen.be/en/conferences/beyond-the-genome/registration/ \n \nWe have
confirmed the following speakers: \nMahsa Shabani (UGent)\nLiis Leitsalu
