DESCRIPTION:The registration to this course will open in March. Please\, b
ring your own laptop.  All the PATC courses at BSC are free of charge.\n\
 nCourse convener: Filippo Mantovani\n\nObjectives: \n\nGet a comprehensive
view of the architecture of the heterogeneous ARM-based platforms deploye
d in the framework of the Mont-Blanc project\, including ARM multicore clu
sters based on mobile and server technology.\n	Understand the challenges a
ssociated with large-scale HPC simulations. \n	Understand the basic conce
pts of architectural simulations and introduce the MUlti-scale Simulation
Architecture (MUSA)\, developed within Mont-Blanc 3 for the simulation of
next-generation HPC architectures. \n	Hands-on and study of a use case us
ing MUSA. Tools for architectural simulation that include a complete softw
are stack for performing architectural simulations at scale of thousands o
f cores will be made available.\nLearning Outcomes: Understand how ARM mul
ticore and ARM+GPU clusters work. Work with some example codes\, compiling
\, debugging and executing trough system queues.\n\nGet a global view of t
he machines with their specific configuration (Operating system\, batch sy
stem\, debuggers\, compilers\, how to access to the machines\, how to use
the resources\, etc)\n\nTarget Group: Standard HPC users\, some knowledge
of multicore and GPU-accelerated systems is desirable\, but not required.\
n\nLevel: INTERMEDIATE: for participants with some theoretical and practic
al knowledge (All courses are designed for specialists with at least 1st c
ycle degree)\n\nRequirements: Standard HPC users\, with some knowledge in
 ARM CPU/GPU architecture (recommended\, but not required).\n\nAgenda:\n\nD
 ay 1 /  9:30am - 5:30pm: (3h lectures with 5 min breaks on the hour)\n\nS
 ession 1 (2h): \n\nThe Mont-Blanc Project\n	ARM based machines: Architectu
 re Overview\n	Discussion\nSession 2 (1h + 1h hands-on):\n\nSimulating ARM
 based machines (TaskSim and Gem5) (1:30h) \n	Lunch Break (13:00 to 14:00)
 \nSession 3 (1h + 1h hands-on ):\n\nSimulation at scale: the MUltiscale Si
mulation Architecture (MUSA)\, performance and power evaluation of next ge
neration large ARM based systems for scientific computingEND of COURSE\n\n
