DESCRIPTION:This webinar\, part of the biocuration series\, will introduce
the topic of text mining and discuss why text mining is used by life scien
ces data resources in part of their biocuration efforts. \n\nTo illustrat
e its use in biocuration\, this webinar will discuss how text mining has r
ecently been used by two data resources\, Open Targets and UniProt in thei
r curation of biological data.\n\nThis webinar is the second in our series
of webinars on the topic of biocuration. In an ELIXIR [survey](https://f
1000research.com/articles/9-1094) in 2019 which aimed at identifying train
ing needs in biocuration\, the most commonly indicated were programming\,
development and use of ontologies and database management. In addition ski
lls like programming and extracting data from literature were mentioned as
decisive for a successful biocuration career. With our webinar series we
want to help to close this gap: Bicourators from different backgrounds and
institutes will share their experience on how they have acquired these re
levant skills in their job\, how they apply these in their works and why t
hey benefit from it. The speakers will also point to helpful tools and res
 ources they use.
