DESCRIPTION:It will be  shown a course targeted to improve the overall per
formance of a code in Solid Earth\, currently in use at the CHEESE Center
of Excellence H2020 project.\nStarting from a description of main architec
tures characterizing the HPC world\,\n parallel performance profiling too
ls will be provided on examples of the code to find the so-called performa
nce bottlenecks. Starting from the profiling analysis\, it will show how a
nd where to intervene with respect to the hardware characterization of the
HPC machine used for the investigation to improve the overall performance
of serial and parallel codes.  \nParticular attention will be given to t
ools and techniques to improve the performance of the codes with respect t
o I / O and vectorization.\n\nSkills:\nAt the end of the course the studen
t will be able to:\n\nuse a concrete methodology to improve the performanc
e of a code in Solid Earth already in use in the context of ChEESE project
\nfind and solve all the main bottlenecks of an application with respect t
o appropriate computational metrics and the machine used\n\nTarget audienc
e: \nResearchers in Solid Earth interested to learn and use all those tec
hniques and related tools that may allow them to improve the performance o
f their code on current HPC architectures in the shortest possible time.\n
 \nPre-requisites:\n\nBasic knowledge of LINUX/UNIX.\nKnowledge of C\, FORT
RAN\, MPI or OpenMP is recommended. Notions of Parallel computing techniqu
es and algorithms for Solid Earth applications\n \n\nCoordinating Teacher
 s: Dr. V Ruggiero\, G.Amati.\n\n \nhttps://events.prace-ri.eu/event/973/
