DESCRIPTION:Whole-genome expression analyses have become a cornerstone of m
odern biological and biomedical\nresearch. Analyzing the structure and rel
ative expression level of tens of thousands of mRNA transcripts\nin parall
el allows us to unravel how organisms develop and respond to their environ
ment\, identify novel\nmetabolic pathways and other molecular processes\,
and pinpoint the molecular and genetic basis for\ndisease. However\, such
analyses also bring with them significant experimental\, computational\, a
nd\nstatistical challenges. The “Transcriptomics!” workshop will inclu
de in-depth lectures and hands-on\ntutorials to equip participants with th
e tools to design\, perform\, and analyze their own RNA-seq\nexperiments.
The following topics will be covered:\n• How to design a robust transcri
ptomic experiment\n• Next generation sequencing platforms\, library prep
\, and quality control (QC) of results\n• Starting simple: transcriptomi
c analysis in bacteria\n• Life gets complicated: transcriptomic analysis
in eukaryotes – introns and alternative splicing\n• Single cell trans
criptomics\n• Environmental (microbiome) gene expression analyses (meta-
transcriptomes)\nThe workshop is open to 40 advanced (MSc and PhD) student
s\, postdocs and research scientists.\nParticipants taking the course for
academic credit are required to submit a written\nproject. The course will
be taught in English to accommodate foreign students.
